Should I blank EGR valves? (MY 07)

Had the following fault codes for the last couple of weeks :
P0489 Exhaust gas recirculation control circuit low
P0196 Engine oil temp sensor circuit range \ performance

Very occasional loss of power for a few seconds usually when cold.
No engine management lights on dash.
No noticeable increase in fuel consumption.

Presume one or both egr valves are on their way out - I propose blanking in the next couple of days (MY 07 so blanking may not be the end of the problem).

Anyone got any other ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

the sensor sits low down in the sump pan but if your quick you can catch what you lose and top it back up Thumbs Up

Will have a go or find someone else to have a go Whistle

Should I forget the EGR issue until the oil sensor is changed?

Mines not doing anything out of the ordinary Question Think I'll change it - presume its not prohibitively expensive.

Is the sensor on one side/front/rear of the sump?

Can you not angle the car so as to minimise loss of oil?

You need a pair of meety (truck) ramps and get it right over....

Or this...

Yes Thumbs Up

I changed mine when the oil was stone cold. Only lost a dribble of oil, not even enough to drip off the sump Thumbs Up

Think I'll try the ramps or a Censored big jack first!

Update on this : fitted new oil temp sensor as advised by Geoff Bow down

Car has been running normally since. Just checked codes & all clear now - egr codes disappeared! Does this sound right? Thought egr codes would remain.
