How do I check my heated front screen really IS heated? |
|
After recently buying an MY 06 (56) HSE from local stealer, they delayed the delivery as it had a cracked screen. This was replaced in a day, but I want to be sure they fitted an official screen. How can I check?
Cheers

Switch it on, see if it heats up
Seriously though, if you look very closely, you should see some very bery fine vertical lines in the screen

As Disco_Mikey says, look closely and you'll see the elements (my eyes used to lock onto them all the time when I first got her, but after a while you don't notice them) in the glass and because they draw a very heavy electrical load you ca hear the engine note change when you switch it on and off at tick over.
Good luck.

hold a steaming kettle inside the screen. let it steam up then switch the heated screen on. You should then see it working! Sail Fast - Live Slow...

And is the heated screen standard on ALL HSE's?
It's going in today to have 2 tyres replaced as part of the deal, I'll be sure to have it checked out by them, and replaced again if neccessary.
Thanks

It also slightly distorts the view as it warms up - mine does anyway

A couple of elements or wires on my screen from top to bottom do not heat up. I'm still under warranty but I've read that replacing a screen isn't worth the trouble if a few wires don't work because its a very 'violent' procedure - which could cause damage. I read that on a different D3 forum. Any truth to it? 16 D4 Landmark

I almost became violent with the fitter that cocked up replacing my first screen, maybe that's what they meant
If done by a pro it should be a fairly painless procedure but not worth the hassle just for a couple of elements The End

Also, if only half the screen heats up, the elements are on two circuits, left and right. Mine used to only clear the passenger side, I removed the interior A post trim (prise the Airbag badge off and unscrew) and the connector was not connected .
Of course, if none of your screen heats up, check both connectors on each side 8)
