Speed (safety) camera's. . what a joke they all need to take a leaf out of swindon council books and ban the lot of them, would save of people blowing them up I suppose. .
I cannot see the goverment taking a u turn on them though as they make way too much money . . .

Oh shock horror
Agree with Dom. If the police stopped doing their own thing and looked at root cause of accidents they might get more support from the general public. Their methods do generate a "them and us" culture especially when they are so far off the mark

All traffic offences should be made civil penalties only, removing the police from the equation so they can get on with the job of real policing.
As for people who injure or kill other people using a car/knife/brick etc law is already in place for it.
Whilst the law is a total sham, e.g. speeding kills, burglars need holidays not prison, mp's can steal 1000's scot free, home-owners jailed for defending property, only guns in society is what criminal have etc etc the gov and police cant blame the general public from being apathetic at best and at worst have zero respect.
Hell even the Chinese have the right idea!
And whilst im on the soap box, I really can't see the need for electricity in prisons, other than running old smoky, I mean play stations, TV's
The country is in such a state, will take years to fix if the Tories even have the balls to do it.

Nope! I've attended some of the monthly police authority meetings and they definitely believe the bo cks they spew out. If they don't doesn't that make them f king bigger hypocrites. And before you say they might not have a choice...we all have a choice some choose to become sheep others don't..
Sorry rant over.

Sorry to be a killjoy Frapp but if everybody see's them as cash machines it is because people are prepaird to speed past them most can be seen before you get to them, I belive a lot of people have speed camra warning devices, of some discription, most sat-nav's also have warning, so if everybody slowed down, there would be no payment to government, and if the government relised they nto geting any money maybe they will take them down. So just slow down and dont pay.

In NSW at least, fixed speed cameras have three warning signs as you approach the camera. Nevertheless, some idiots still get caught.
On the other hand, there are mobile radar units and unmarked police cars. I passed the former and followed the 2nd (for a while ), yesterday.
I "think" I was safe.
In QLD, on the other hand, they park unmarked radar camera vehicles beside the road. I was "pinged" by one as I was wandering around, trying to find my way on roads out of Townsville.
Oh well,

I think what is being said is that it isn't speed that causes the accidents it's the idiots behind the wheel and therefore speed cameras only purpose is to feed the coffers of the Government. British Police until this year have stated that 24% of all accidents are caused by speed which is absolute bo cks. Root cause analysis states that an incident can only be caused by a person or persons actions or lack of actions. This is why, with all the improvements in safety of cars and breaking systems we are still killing people...now they are reducing the speed in rural areas to 50 mph because the figures are not improving. Will We all be travelling at 20 mph before they reailise. You have to look at the circumstances and the individuals who have the accidents before you can attempt to cure the problem

I wonder how many accidents (and deaths) have been directly caused by people surfing the camera's or fixated on their speedo's, instead of properly observing the road conditions ahead? We don't seem to get those figures from the police. 2005 D3 HSE
