Had an early D3 S for three years and had no problems. Did every thing I wanted and more. Ploughed throughan amazing depth of the white stuff. Only changed as just over six years old and thought to change while still getting decent price for it. Got a D4 XS with locking rear diff + general grabbers and so far 1 year on and 10000 miles not a hint of a problem. Love the auto box and it's great for ovetaking where limited short straights. Looking at about 27/28mpg over all types of driving. Tow car, doesn't even notice 3.5 tons, MPG does.
Definately better than the D3 but nothing wrong with D3 and better cubby holes and layout for the off road buttons.
Loved both and happy with both. Only advantage I see with the D$ is the oomph for over taking on A roads.
