I would suggest that pointing a laser pen or light at aircraft is not a good idea, the last one to do it next to B/ham airport is sitting in a very small room for 6 months wishing he hadn't, the judge wasn't impressed.
I can't remember now from local paper but I think it was someone in their 60's messing about in his back garden.

No doubt this was one of those divots who buys a house on the flight path, and then objects to the noise. Having no joy at forcing the moving of the airport out of their back yard they decide that if they permanently blind a pilot or two, they'll refuse to fly Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

I accept that I don't think anyone on this forum would do such a thing as to shine anything at an aircraft, but it did surprise me the severity of the sentence, which is why I mentioned it. I can also accept the serious outcome under certain circumstances .

That sort of wanton stupidity has actually been quite an ongoing phenomenon here in Cyprus for several months now, with one pilot being reported as seeking medical treatment for it. The cockpit of several planes in final approach to Larnaca Airport has been targeted at night.
seems that they have collared 4 squadies for doing it, although there may be more, and apparently someone did it to a police chopper
The sentence can be as much as 2 years
The sentence might seem harsh, but then doing something that willfully endangers the life of several hundred people to any degree is no joke either. How would you feel as the passenger in a plane undergoing such a timing critical manouver to know someone is willfully attempting to distract or temporarily blind your pilot.

That looks like it could have been a real brown trouser moment I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Yeah we have apaches
The first time I saw them there were three alongside each other hovering over the M25. Really gave me a little bit of a "moment" when driving along.
The have apaches at middle wallop and there is a greenlane that goes right alongside where they fly, you can see them flying below the tree line.
They have also been used in Afghanistan and there is a good book following some of the pilots. It's called Apache dawn. Well worth a read IMHO D3 HSE MY05 Auto
