If I did move from a D3 HSE to a D4...

Pondering on a D4.

My D3 HSE has been outstanding for 7 years and (touch wood) utterly reliable. I do like all the toys that come with the HSE but the D4 HSE has a little 'sticker shock' compared to what I paid for the D3. It also comes with some toys that I would not really appreciate.

So the question is, what options would I need to add to an XS to ensure it has the stuff I have got used to on the D3?

We went down a similar road and after adding all the extras on we were close to the HSE price. Went for HSE in the end as there were things you got over and above the car we had speced up for a fraction more.

If you use them on your D3, you'll certainly miss the armrests.
Small thing maybe, but I couldn't be without them.

Are they an option yet on the XS?

Robbie, I went for a D4 XS and have to say the only thing i 'miss' as such is the arm rests on the front seats at mine doesn't have the electric seat pack.... so i keep putting my arm down & there is nothing there Laughing

As for the rest :

Sunroof ----not fused , climate control is all i need Laughing
Voice ------wiggs turned it on Thumbs Up
4x4 info .-----wiggs turned it on Thumbs Up
remote climate ------ Wiggs again Whistle

Xenons (had em on my d3) ----- I have some Philips extreme bulbs in the D4 lights which seem pretty close to the D3 Xenons ..they are certainly better than D3 halogens (my view anyway) as they are projector type jobbies so give a much better beam.

Cubby Fridge ...moved it over Thumbs Up

I know it has been said on here many times but it is the engine that impressed me most.
I too was very happy with my D3 which also had never let me down... but once you drive a D4 there is no going back Thumbs Up
 Cheers Ian

I test drove a D4 and armrest was the massive issue for me in XS spec. However, i was reliably informed you can have them as an option

Driving a D4 at the LRE this summer was a mistake as I have been hankering after one ever since. I thought the massive price difference between the XS and HSE would give me some flex on options but Russell's advice suggests this is difficult! £52450 for an HSE is a fair chunk of money compared to what I paid for my HSE D3. No doubt I could get a fair discount from the list price (10 or 20%?) but it will still make my eyes water.

I quite like the glass roof, but I could live without it. Didn't know about the armrest and I consider this a 'must have' along with electrics seats! I understood the 4x4 info and voice are on MY12 XS but that remote climate was not something Wiggs could add to the latest MY (could be wrong??). Got used to my BAS controller so I would find it hard to go back to the 'frozen car' look.

What else is missing from the XS that the D3 HSE had as standard?

Never missed them once TBH myself, why such a big miss when the centre console cubby box lid is at same height and does the job (and no having to swing them out the way to get seat belt in....)

I agree with astonbuilder, my HSE has them but I never use them because it's just as easy to use the top of the cubby box.

Ahem, if you happened to be a little short (clearly not me you understand) then the cubby box could be a little far back to be used as an armrest.

Again, clearly this does not apply to be as I am 7' 9" if a stoop a little... Whistle

Well I have done it. Paid my deposit for an HSE today for delivery in late Dec / Jan 13.

Need to have a lie down now and ponder life without my Discovery 3!

Thumbs Up
