I'm Gonna have to get me one of those!

Hi All,
The following tale should serve as a warning to people of the underhand tactics used by some Land Rover dealers.
I was thinking of upgrading my Honda Accord for an 04 plate Disco 2 to go camping with the kids.(I used to have a RR classic for this purpose), so this weekend I took myself and partner along to my local Guy Salmon showroom.
After a test drive in a nice Java Black D2 which went very well, the dealer said 'Would sir like to take a new discovery for a short drive to see how it compares'?

The Ba***rd!!

Now, thanks to this unscrupulous salesman I have to spend twice as much on my next car as I had intended!

He knew only too well that I was bound to have been impressed with the smooth and quiet TDV6 engine and the ride and handling that was several leagues above that of the D2.

But that's not the worst of it! He then invited us both inside for a cup of coffee and a 'chat'. I should have known better. It was here that he showed me on his computer that I could in fact afford one!

What a t**t!

I could buy a second house for the amount my HSE is costing me per month.....but it is worth it.

I bought a D3 HSE in April, then wife's D2 needed replacing so was looking at a run out Frelander. When she found out this I got a sharp "what, you get a nice new Discovery and you're going to put me in a poxy Freelander". Now she has a D3 as well (just as well, I use it for offroading)! Now completely broke rather than a bit broke but have 2 D3 in drive!

BTW you will not regret the D3 over the D2!

Yes - it sort of comes over you in a wave of elation doesn't it? All those promises that you made to SWMBO about not getting drawn into it, yes we'll discuss it, and we need to make sure we can afford it..... all go out of the window.

New Feelander is bloody good... old Freelander was bloody good but was surpassed many years ago.

The new one looks very capable - the old one is light years different - though I know a couple of mad Freelander drivers who have had their Freelander places I wouldn't take my D3

The first freelanders were shocking...I bought a launch model and it required heaps of repairs/etc etc....trim was particularly fragile and the seats were sh**e.......nae support and fell to bits....needless to say, they got better as time went on but I believe the freelander2 is a whole different kettle of potatoes!...way better and properly built....akin to the difference between a d2 and d3.......suppose only time will tell......HOWEVER....a big spec freelander 2 will run you up to nearly £35k....I know where my money would go instead.

BTW, I experienced what I now know to be what D3 owners call the 'permagrin' about 3 minutes into the test drive! Very Happy

Home brew is cause wife thinks I keep half of the French wine industry going single handed. She says that cider will be good for you (prob hoping that it will be rubbish) but she keeps on buying the wine! Just don't cremate me!

Luckily for me she was just as keen. She can't fit much shopping in her Saab rag-top! Laughing
