For GPS L1 frequency there is a little over 3dB lost through the D3/D4 heated front screen. For L2 the drop is much less (as measured on my MY05 D3).
If the equipment GPS is sensitive enough it can cope with the signal attenuation, if not then you are in a pickle.
Thumbs Up

I think I am right in saying he is a respected forum contributor and clearly has the technical objective expertise to back up what he is saying?

I've had GPS signal issues with various vans/cars over the years. Speaking to the tech-bods at Tom-Tom and Garmin, they seem to think it's a layer that's put in the glass to help limit thermal/solar gain. Originally only used in vehicles with A/C...... A few years ago, we had a fleet of vans, some with and some without A/C. Tom toms were fine in the 'withouts', the 'withs' had to have an external aerial fitted......
Apparently the black area nr the rear mirror, doesn't have this 'layer' in it

My measurement equipment is neurological ....it works or it don't.
I don't need Robbie or anyone else to tell me thanks 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
When my swmbo's Transcend 220 arrives I will try both in the D4 and get an idea of the acquisition time. It may be that the gps in the Transcend is just good enough.Volvo XC60 - does all that the D4 should have done

DG that's kinda my point, it works for you, it doesn't for some others, so for you to say something is a myth just because it hasn't happened in your experience is misleading to other members who look to this forum for knowledge and help.

What you mean I'm misleading them with my experience of 20 years with heated windscreens and all sort's of gadgets working perfectly well. How am I possibly misleading as I can quite categorically say it's a myth in my case.
Whether you or anyone else chooses to accept that is entirely up to you and them ...it is my experience and opinion 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I am of course being obstreperous
However, in those cases reported where there has been a problem relating to the loss of GPS signal from in-cabin equipment...(which historically on this site are in the minority) it has not been categorically confirmed that the windscreen was the culprit.
Working on the basis that the manufacturing process and simplicity of the windscreen components are fairly constant it would lead me to think that the more technologically complex gadget and chips are far more likely to suffer inconsistencies and variances in performance...that is before we consider other local conditions.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
