Infrared Repeaters ??

I have a piece of electrical equipment that i need to locate in the boot but it is controlled by an infrared remote control.

Can anyone advise of a suitable IR repeater system (or a better way) so that i can use the remote in the front of the car and transmit the signal to the kit in the boot. I am not very good at soldering Embarassed so anything like that and i'm likely to set everything on fire Confused

Thanks Thumbs Up

With the childrens' DVD player in the back which also has IR remote control, I just fire it back over my shoulder and wave about a bit - there is obviously enough glass to get a reflection on to the sensor somehow.

You need an ir to rf (InfraRed to Radio Frequency) converting remote and sensor such as this:

Blimey DiscoDunc; I nearly followed through when I saw that price!!!

Would something like this be the start of something better?

http://www.jaycarelectronics.co.uk/productView.asp?ID=KC5432

It's a kit of parts that needs soldering together, so that could allow some flexibility when it comes to mounting the components (especially the receiver). And at this price there's enough cash left over to buy MrH a pint or 10 Thumbs Up

It is a bit expensive Shocked

I was looking for something in the £1.99 price range Confused but your suggestion is more in my price range. At that price It doesnt matter if it doesnt work Laughing , Thanks Thumbs Up

If not then MrH has kindly offered to take the existing IR receiver and solder some longer cable on so i can mount it around the dash area. Not sure how it will fit , or look afterwards, hence trying to find a nice compact receiver that will mount in the dash.

Its for a mobile CCTV recording system. The unit is a bit big to fit anywhere other than in the boot.

Hi Dunc,

Have a look at this, it's what I use to control AV kit at home that's in a cupboard. Works very well. Have also used them on job's in 2 story motor homes when the AV is downstairs. All runs off 12v fine.

Cheers, Richard.

It won't auto shorten the web page properly as the ( ) cocks it up... You need to add www. to the following and copy in...... Hope it's worth it!

Off Roading is OK.... But I'd rather be Boating!

I use http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenmar-Marmitek-St...B000GIXH4C in the caravan to relay a signal into a cupboard for the stereo (it's one of these daft designs where they put the car stereo in a cupboard, give you a remote control that won't work unless you open the cupboard)

Seems to work alright , although don't use it much.
