Injector Exhaust blow back
Hello again. long story short, ive been the last few weeks repairing a broken cam chain failure on the left side cylinder head, ive been doing this in the evenings so only get to do a small bit at a time. i replaced the chain and all put back together. But now i cant seal the back injector. and a good volume of what appears to be exhaust and semi burnt diesel is spitting out from the head, i tried to swap injectors around to see if the copper seal is faulty but it doing the same thing. Just to note i did take the head of and visual inspect the valves and all seemed to be fine. any thought would be well appreciatedDicovery 3 (Rimini Red)

Injector washers are not reusable and should be replaced with new!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Thanks PROFSR G. Is it normal that exaughst gases and diesel to be spitting out if not sealed correctly. Hopefully it is something as simple as that. Now. What I tryed to explain is that I swapped the back injector for the front injector and back injector seated correctly into the front with no leaks. and the back injector still leaked out with the front injector installed I can't see if there is debri down the hole as its basically under the winscreen. But I don't think there isDicovery 3 (Rimini Red)

The exhaust gas on combustion is literally like an acetylene torch, it will burn a slot in the metal very quickly and may well have already done so and if it has making a seal without machining and using a thicker washer is near impossible you may be lucky and it has only damaged the washer, in the meantime do not run the engine. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks M3DPO. IMHO I think that's what's after happening. I do not think I fully secured that injector and you can see a slot where it is blowing out from. Shown in the picture

You may have a damaged injector seat, hopefully the head is OK if a swapped injector is sealing when installed to a rear cyl. Get new copper seals and check carefully the injector seats. As M3DPO says don't run it if its leaking bad as it could result in severe damage.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Out of interest Freelander 2 TD4 injector seals(copper washers) will fit, exactly the same and can be purchased individually for pence rather than 10’s of pounds for Discovery which can only be purchased with the pipe assembly It can when others can't,

I'll check it out. Put in a new set and see. If she blows again looks like I'll be back to square one removing the head and replacing with another reconditioned unitDicovery 3 (Rimini Red)

Be doubly sure you get all the carbon off the seal seat, it becomes glazed and extremely hard particularly when it is blowing to atmosphere. It can when others can't,
