DM if all 6 are replaced at once is there still a learning curve for the PCM or will it run sweet from turn over?

I would imagine if your injectors were at fault the rough running will be fixed upon first or second crank after replacing e.g. if it was bad spray pattern, leaking, over fueling and or under fueling pretty sure its just the values that will eventually settle. I replaced two injectors my issue wasnt fixed (car ran a little bit better) but the old injectors went crazy high straight away and new were crazy low. After 200 miles or so my newer ones are slightly higher but still too low and old slightly lower but yeah still too high so im replacing the rest in two days time.

Thanks d3 still with garage, its had a new dual mass flywheel and clutch which i was told has cured the idle lumpiness however still has a missfire through the rev range
I still think injectors are at fault and most likely cure will be replace all 6 but at nearly £1800 on top of a grand for the clutch already im probably gonna chop it in and cut my losses and stress levels
If that happens one of the following will be on the path next week, xc90/touareg/merc GL/merc Ml
After 20 years of green ovals it may be time to move on...😢

I had my new injectors installed bit of drama one of those return clips was dodgy and fuel return hose popped off when under load spewing diesel all over engine and down onto exhaust side of EGR cooler. When i first saw the huge plume of vapours as i slowed down i thought it was smoke and thought f**k thats the end of my D3. If i had a petrol engine i think i would have lost my car.

Looking at the old injectors after removal, injector 1 was clearly not atomising correctly because it looked dry compared to rest that were liberally covered in diesel.

Originally 5&6 was high for me similair as you and yeah 1 was 1000 according to the balances hence why i ignored it. When I replaced 5&6 all my OLD injectors went high e.g. 1200-1300 looking back at pics but after a lot of kms all of the old ones 2, 3 and 4 dropped to 1000-1100 EXCEPT injector 1 which stayed on 1300.

If i was you i would replace injector 6 like i did drive it around for 3 weeks so the old ones can settle then check balances again. If one is still high replace that, drive around for 3 weeks... etc... like DM says you cant swap them out one by one and instantly find a bad injector like your specialist did they are controlled by ECU and it takes time for it to learn.

Having a worn common rail injector at our mileage is perfectly normal other commonrails e.g. insanely reliable Toyota Hilux they recommend swapping out far earlier 160,000km due to copper washers failing. Even my Ford petrol with indestructible 4.0 straight 6 had bad injectors at similar mileage.

My symptoms appear to be finally fixed.
E.g.
Big misfire on cold starts after sitting for more than 8 hours feeling like it might stall - gone
Slight misfire upon even warm engine cranks - gone
Intermittent rough cold idle lasting until hitting temp - gone
Poor cold engine performance - driving same warm or cold now

Fuel economy highway driving (I live in country) has gone from:
9.8L/100 - 28mpg
8.0L/100 - 35mpg

Anybody replacing injectors I strongly advise putting all your return clips together and compare them.

Thanks weedyapl i am just waiting for the pcm to be checked and at that point if its ok i am going to get all the injectors replaced with second hand tested set. Hop fully this will cure the annoying problem and get me back on the road after nearly two weeks
