Input appreciated - USB Connectivity |
|
Thought i had a cunning plan to fulfil my audio needs.
I have a large & eclectic music collection, most of which i've now ripped onto a hard drive. My thoughts were to use a 1TB portable hard drive to store my music on in the car accessed via the USB, however have just tried SWMBO'S 500gb Samsung & although the power light shows the audio display shows please connect hard drive.
Any thoughts? Paul.

Paul are you trying to power the drive from the USB socket? If so I don't think there will be enough power to do that. I did have a USB stick in there with music on at one point Cheers Ian

Buy an old iPod of from eBay and fill it with MediaMonkey. No need for iTunes on your PC. Cheers Patrick from Munich

I just bought a 32GB usb stick and use that in the car. Doesn't fit all music on it but it does allow me to carry a lot. Given the challenging interface, I'm not sure I'd want millions of tracks to search through. Bri

Why would you try to get away from them?
I tried all the possibilities for my MY15 and the one that works best seems to be the iPod. You can put a shortcut on the homescreen (doesn't seem to work for USB drives) and the only way to get playlists is an iPod...
On the other hand, if you need a lot of GBs...
Anyway, have you tried an Y-cable? That way you could get the power from the cigarette lighter and have the USB port for the car.
Something like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Delock-Y-Cable-USB...sb+y+cable
in combination with this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/MITSUGAWA-charger-...er+adapter
Worth a try, but I'm quite sure that should work good. USB normally uses 500mA, so the hdd should not use more than 1000mA at it's highest use. The adapter gives 2400mA, and with the Y-cable it should get all the power it needs.
Just a question how to fit it in the glove box permanently. Cheers Patrick from Munich

Size Paddy, i have 2 160gb & over 750gb of music, just my preference but would like it all with me.
The small Samsung unit fits nicely inside the lid of the cubby box next to the USB port Paul.
