Instrument lights don't turn on in cold weather |
|
Has anyone else seen the following? If the LR3 has been sitting in the cold (20 degrees F) when I start it up then turn on the headlights the instrument lights don't turn on (they evantually do turn on after the car has warmed up). However, if I turn the ignition off then turn on the lights then restart the car the instrument lights work as you'd expect. I've tried this several times now, and it seems to be repeatable.
It almost sounds like a software bug, has anyone else noticed this?

I've have a variation on this theme where the instrument lights come on as normal, but when you turn the headlights on the instrument lights don't dim to their "night-time" settings. It happened when the car was at around freezing temperature. After a few minutes the lights went normal again.

John-
I've got the same exact problem as you. Sometimes rotating the dimmer switch will activate the lights, but the colder the temps, the longer I have to wait for them to come back on. I haven't tried turning off the engine and turning the lights on and restarting, but will try tomorrow. It's -5 degrees F, so it's cold and my lights are out!
Cheers,
Rick

John,
I had a similar problem for 12 months. When my panel lights did not work the side lights also did not work! have you checked.
When i switched on the head lights, the rear side lights worked but not the front.
The light switch was changed twice and made did not fix the problem.
A bad connection was found behind the main fuse box and since fixing had no problem.

Has anyone else had problems with the instrument lights not coming on when the side/headlamps are switched on? SWMBO noticed it and commented that when she went over a bump the lights can on. This had happened a couple of days on her way home from work.
This morning I was dragged out at -3C to see that indeed the instrument lights were not on. On moving the instrument dimmer switch slightly, the lights worked. Could it be a faulty switch? Anyone else had similar problems? Renny Thomson

I have found that my instrument lights have not come on a few times recently. It only affects the dials in the binnacle and the radio and heater controls. The buttons on the steering wheel, he LCD displays and the controls around the gear lever still light as normal.
Each time I have fiddled with the light switch or stopped and restarted the engine and they have come on. I tried checking whether the rear lights were working and they were but by the time I got back to the driver's seat the instrument lights ahd come on too so it was inconclusive.
It could be related to the colder weather as this is my first winter with the car.

same fault, but not convinced it is temperature related IIRC it happens during the warmer months as well, i just notice it more in the winter because the car nearly always has its lights on then. In the summer do we all just use our lights less?
a quick flick of the dimmer dial fixes things tho

I have done a fair amount of night driving but have not had the problem until abaour a week ago. Also, adjusting the dimmer switch had no effect on mine.

Carl,
sounds like a similar problem. Like you not sure if it is temp related or not or just notice it more in the winter. As tweaking the dimmer seems to fix it I'll probably just wait till it goes in for a service. Renny Thomson
