Insurance

Hi all,

Nearly there as a D3 owner. Deposit down on an ex-LR management car. Hopefully picking it up on Friday. But...

The current insurers of my TDi, Natwest, are asking to see a certificate that the LR alarm/immobiliser has been fitted correctly before they will insure the car for theft. Is this normal? Or are Natwest just being a bunch of pains in la derriere?

Not that I'm going to stay with Natwest anyway as their quote of £513 is ott compared to £363 from Directline. I just need a damn cover note for Friday morning...

Try NFU Mutual ins... they are very good and great value. Never been asked for a cert for the alarm. As the system is factory fitted they should be aware of its rating as they should be for any manufacturers system.

NFU can be found here :

I tried NFU on for my renewal and although extreeeeemly helpful and great to deal with, turned out cheaper to stay with LR (royalSun...) , how does that make sense?

I reinsured my car yeaterday. Very Happy

For a base 7 seat model I had the following quotes. All quotes include Class 1 Businesss Use.

I had one prang this year when I was driving off Poole Quay watching the metal bollards which have about 3 inch clearance each side and I failed to notice a car comming down the road. Shocked

The car an old rusty J Reg thing, came off far worse with the drivers side door and mirror destroyed. Sad
My Disco 3 was hardly scratched. Slight markings on n/s wheelarch, and headlight which I had replaced by insurance.

Worst thing was that I did this in front of my staff and those of my competing businesses. Embarassed Embarassed

Ist accident of my making in 20 years of driving so cannot be too bad. Wink

Quotes

1. Stay with Direct Line - no off road cover £451.50 with £250.00 excess

2. Quote via confused.com - Budget insurance no off road cover £392.53 with £350.00 excess

3. LR insurance with off road cover £627.15 could not explain why they are so expensive.

4. Adrian Flux with off road cover £445.21 with £250.00 excess

5. NFU Mutual with off road cover £442.05 with £250 Excess £484.05 with £150 Excess and £506.10 with £100 Excess

I chose the NFU mutual with £150 excess at £484.05. Smile

Now that I have my Off Road Cover sorted I am ready for some DISCO 3 events. (If I can find time to take off work at a weekend). Wink

Kevin, is that 'off road' or greenlane (i.e. public byways) cover? greenlane cover is a ruse by insurance companies to add value, as by their nature, you're covered on them anyway

Is the NFu 4x4 Insurance a special policy? I ask as I'm just perusing the high quote I obtained at lunch time and there's no mention of off-road, green lanes or even 4x4. Just a bit about no cover 'airside' at airports (and a cop-out on trailers excluding horse trailers - bah!)

Kevin - looks like your quotes are pretty much identical to those I got about 6 months ago.
Mine in particular from LR (actually Royal & Sun Alliance, if I recall) was just as uncompetitive- it made me wonder whether they were relying on the customer inertia at point of sale.

NFU have lots of praise from this site. In particular they offer 2 years' new replacement vehicle cover (as opposed to most who only do 12 months).
