I am this time, but our RRS was the dealer's demo, so we were the second owner.Matt

Careful with Adrian Flux, when I spoke to them off road cover was only on cars worth less than £30K. They are a good company though, I have insured several cars through them and made a claim. I spoke to Adrian Flux again about their off-road cover and I wanted to see written terms etc. They don't have any, but when I questioned was it only green lane cover, they said "it is full off road and green laning cover, as long as its for a bit of fun and not time trials or racing".
The trouble is without anything in writing and no mention to off-road use in the policy, it could come to a sticky situation if you wanted to claim for an off-road incident.
If I'm insuring a £43k car, new for old for 12 months and they include off-road cover on the policy, then it should be covered, regardless of the value.
At £100 cheaper than the NFU, it's quite a saving.Matt

That's the problem I had with MCE, after about a month of trying and me getting increasingly frustrated at how incompetent they were I finally got written confirmation of the off-road cover (just a typed page, nothing official looking) it was so restrictive I cancelled the policy
I really don't understand why these companies that supposedly offer off-road cover have such an issue in supplying details in writing, gives you no confidence in them at all and leads you to presume they don't really give you the cover
As I said earlier if there's an insurance company out there that can offer decent off-road cover at a reasonable cost (and provide proof in writing!) they're practically guaranteed some new businessThe End
I've used all the screen scrapers and the I can get 'normal' insurance for £400 from many suppliers.
The NFU is £183 more than this and LR Insurance is massive £253 more. While NFU offer new for old for 2 years, most of the others are pretty much the same. They all offer courtesy cars etc etc. I'm willing to pay extra to have off-road cover, but this does seem rather a lot extra for the 4 or 5 times per year that I've driven in the mud!
If only someone could offer a separate off-road policy, even if it was limited to so many days per annum.
I've used NFU for a few years now and I only hear praise for them, so I will insure with them again. But after an looking into this quite extensively, it seems that us 4x4 drivers are limited with our choices.Matt

I know this is a naive statement but apart from a total loss (sinking into a whole even bigger than the one VA got his RRS stuck in) what is the actual risk here? Typical speeds are 5mph yes?

and yer mates can always drag you to the nearest road or green lane before you report the accident
But panel damage often means chassis damage now. True, low risk, but if you did slide into a tree, the cost of repair could be massive.Matt
