Intermittent check brakepads warning

I've had the Check brake pads warning on today, but only when on the move, stationary it clears. Anyway i checked the pads and they have about 8mm of material left, pushed both sensor cables home but no difference. Any clues as to where to look first?

Cheers,

An intermittent open circuit any where in the sensor / vehicle wiring would cause this. If you can get a pair of old sensors cut the wires and solder them together, plug them into the vehicle in place of your current sensors and see if it stops the problem.

Alternatively give the sensor wiring a shake around while someone is in the car with ignition on to see if you can replicate the fault.

Please let us know how you get on. I have exactly the same problem but not had the time to investigate yet. If I sort the problem first I will let you know.

I had that once after I had reused a sensor after cleaning out the brake calipers (trying to cure sqeaky brakes). I had lost the wee brass spring that keeps it in, so was flapping about in the wind and broken. Quickly fixed with a new one.

Well the light is now on permanantly, so at least i don't have 'bongs' every 30 seconds. It was doing a proper disco dancing flicker at times. Hopefully will have chance to get under the arches tonight and have a look at the wiring in more detail. I've ordered replacement sensors anyway as they are fairly cheap and will get used eventually.

Problem found!

When i checked all of the pads over a week ago saw nothing unusual. When i removed the front wheel yesterday the sensor cable assembly had been worn away through abrasion Shocked . I can only think that the wire had come loose from its mounting.

Anyway new sensor cable assembly fitted an no more warning.
