Glad we cleared that up! How many more colours in the rainbow?
Is it SJ813 or something?

Thanks for all the suggestions gentlemen, but the mystery continues, I have opened up the loom alongside the passenger footwell and can only find one of the dreaded blue taped splices
This joins two green/pink wires to a single green/pink wire as you can see from the picture it appears to be in good condition but to be on the safe side I have cut it out and made a soldered splice covered in heat shrink and Plastidip.
I can find the blue/purple wire shown in DM's wiring diagram but this does not have a splice, fuse 44 is good and has 12.9 volts to both test points.

I have now traced the purple/blue wire through to the green connector in the centre console, seen in the bottom left of this photograph.
It has battery voltage all the way, from there it re-enters the loom and the next place I have been able to find is at the plug that connects to the gear selector, pinning through the insulation there is 12.7 volts immediately behind the plug.
Unfortunately due to the design of the plug I cannot see which of the sockets the wire is connected to, would anybody be able to give me a socket or pin number from their wiring diagram please?
Would I be right in assuming that if I have voltage at the plug then my problem is the gear selector is goosed?
Is it repairable or am I better off looking for a new one?

Hi - I have a very similar problem. Same error code and fault appear whenever I select drive.
I exposed the loom hoping to find a problem but could not find anything wrong.
I unwrapped a blue connector and it was all fine. There were some other connection but they looked glued with shrink wrap which looks professional or factory to me.
I found one single grey wire near the glovebox loose so I insulated that;
I could not inspect the top part of the loom well but there was no sign of corrosion anywhere. I ran out of time so put it all back together again.
Any ideas what to try next?

Unfortunately at the moment I haven't, I still have the problem on mine but as I can work round it by switching the lights on before selecting drive in the gearbox, I have not got round to spending a lot of time on it. Now that the better weather is coming I will try to get back to it.

Can anyone shed any light what fixed their cars please ? Cut this wire back but wires were still black inside, managed to get solder to take and rejoined. Still no better car still keeps coming up with transmission fault.

Rawhide, that grey wire is meant to be expose as you found it. Some time ago I also found the same wire (others have also come across it) and searched through the wiring diagrams until I found it. If you check out this link http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic131361.html it'll show the diagrams I down loaded and explain what the wire is.

Did anyone manage to fix this? I cannot find the mentioned blue splice anywhere and I’m pretty sure it’s not from lack of looking. I’ve been going through this part of the loom for hours now.

Hi - I logged back into this site and thought I'd post an update. My cars gearbox issues are entirely fixed. The fault was in the centre console switch panel. I bought a second hand one on ebay and it's all fine now
The cause was we believe either spilled fizzy drink or leaving the sunroof open in a rain storm. All done before I bought the car.
