Intermittent OBD connector

Has anyone experienced problems with the OBD connector in their car? I have bought a Faultmate MSV-2 Extreme, and most of the time the MSV-2 will not communicate with the car. I have had it working, but only occasionally.
BBS thinks it's a problem with the OBD connector in the car, and I'm wondering if this is a common problem.

Are you trying it with ignition off or on ?

Does the MSV power up every time or just sometimes ?

Ignition on. Also with engine on, in case my brand new battery wasn't up to the task. The server powers up every time I plug it in.

when you say won't communicate with the car - do you mean communication errors in Vehicle Explorer? If so, I do get those every now and then

I get communication error: server not communicating with vehicle ECU. So I can't do anything to the car: Not read or clear faults, prime FBH or change configuration files.

Sorry, haven't seen this one. Mine is usually "VSE 003 Communication Error Vehicle server error. Please recycle power to the vehicle server, check all connections and try again". Eventually it does work, but throws these errors every now and then.

Hope you get it sorted
