iPod for 2009MY

So, I will soon take delivery of a new 2009 Disovery, which is fitted with the High Audio System and Bluetooth. Razz

I know there are dozens of ipod-related threads but still I don't know what exactly do I need to get my iPod running in a 2009 Disco? Sad

Is there a Kit offered by Land Rover? I am useless with a spanner and even more so when it comes to ICE. Embarassed I don't want wires running from here to there, just a good integrated solution. Any ideas?

If you want full integration (to control it through the stereo) there is a dealer fitted kit. If not, you can just hook up to the Aux input with a regular headphone cable!

The cheap route from Belkin via Amazon, plug in the aux and lighter socket at the back of the center arm rest, tuck the wires underneath, and it works a treat.

(you need a double ended 3.5 stero jack as well)

Thanks guys, so I'll ask the dealer for the Land Rover Kit. No messing around with wires and plugs for me Embarassed

@AndrewS: I am an Apple sort of person. As a consequence I think iTunes is great and easy to use Wink

Can you let me have a part number for the Belkin cable assy. Been trying to find one in Dubai but none of the stores seem to know what I am on about. If I had a part number at least they could look it up before they tell me they don't have it....?

I’d also have to chime in with support for iTunes

I think it’s the best piece of software I’ve come across for managing my music collection on my laptop & device.

When uploading you can control precisely what you want sync’d to your iPod and/or iPhone, with no messing around at all. Striaight forward & simple to use Thumbs Up

There's a credible theory that the poor performance of iTunes on Windows is both payback for lame Office implemention on Apple Macs and as a reason to switch to Macs. If you want drag'n'drop, then you'll want a different music device, chap.

Dubai - not the best product ever, but the only one I've been able to find in Dubai is the Griffin TuneFlex. Works well enough as long as you're on smooth pavement and not taking turns too fast. The problem with it is that it tends to flop sideways with the weight of the ipod, but I usually bend it so that it ends up sitting on the cupholders and it's fine.

(you need to have an AUX-in for this to work)

I think I bought mine either at Virgin or CompuMe in the Mall of the Emirates

Andres, try something called "MGTEK dopisp".
It's a plugin for Windows Media Player which lets you sync your choones with an Ipod.
Don't think it syncs movies or photo's yet.
Itunes is plainly wrong. Too slow, too fussy, regularly misses off whole albums from the library. Hate the bloody thing. it is Evil or Very Mad

Thanks Hernan. I used to have one of those in my old Disco 2. Worked very well as long as it wasn't necessary to continually remove and insert the device, which would be the case in the LR3 as the wife is always needing the front 12 v outlet to charge her phone. Eventually it got so sloppy a fit that it just dangled there looking pretty sorry for itself. Hope nobody reads this out of context. However, I will take a look in either Virgin or Compu Me.
Cheers

Confused You must have a different iTunes than I have ! Shocked

I couldn't associate any of the above to iTunes, quite the opposite in fact. Certainly not "too fussy" it's the easiest, simplest, most non complicated music library management software I've ever come across 8)

Just goes to show that the saying "one man's meat, is another man's poison" is certainly true Laughing

I think Dr Lex is probably right; if you run it on a Mac it is a different experience to on a PC. I've never had any issues.
