Do all D3's have an AUX jack and if so where is it? I don't recall seeing one on my TDV6-7 Base (but then I haven't picked it up yet!! 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

No, not all. If you have a base stereo (no CD changer), odds are it's missing. You can wire in your own to the rear of the head unit, however. All radios have an AUX button; the connector is just missing on some. It's normally located on the back of the center storage console.

The base D3's don't have an aux jack.
Higher spec D3s (certainly the HSE) have an aux and extra 12v (cig) socket at the rear of the centre console, into which you can plug a standard 3.5mm jack.
If, like me, you have a base D3 without the aux in the centre console, then the solutions are a little harder.
You can either - use a wireless rf transmitter (technically illegal in UK. Some people love them; others can't get the bloomin' things to work well).
Or- you can take out the stereo from behind the fascia, then solder (!) 2 connections to the aux-in socket pins on the rear of the stereo unit.
Look in archived threads for instructions on how to remove the fascia, how to solder to the rear of the stereo.
If you do manage to solder to the stereo, then at least you will be able to access the mp3 player through your stereo as there is an 'aux' button.
In summary, it's not ideal! Discovery 3 tdv6 7 seat Buckingham Blue

Get an ITrip off ebay, works well, less wires, no soldering. Illegal yes, but more chance of pigs flying than catching you.

Yes. AUX is better (better quality, no interference), though obviously not easier if you don't have a AUX jack.

Oh- just found out 'i-Trip'. Great, except it only works with ipods.

Tried one of the Belkin ones - bought on an overseas trip for 'evaluation purposes'.
It was utter cr@p in my old Galaxy. Radio 2 swamped all the available channels. Waste of money.
Of course, if you can try before you buy, then it's worth the effort! Trouble is that there aren't many places you can try them out in the UK. Discovery 3 tdv6 7 seat Buckingham Blue

Newer ones have more channels available, instead of limiting you to lower frequencies... still, never optimum.

Just Pull!!
The trim around the head unit, air con etc is held on by 4 clips, just give it a good tug on each side and it'll come off. It's a touch scary the first time you do it though!
To remove the centre console there's a screw each side at the back behind what looks like little vents at the bottom. Then there's one infront of the park brake lever (so you can remove the lever because there's not enough play in the cable) and supposedly one on the other side underneath the coin tray (there wasn't on mine though). I think that's all of them, been a while since I had mine off though.... The End

You are correct. The output of the Belkin (at 100% volume) is the same as any line-out dock (and the HK Drive+Play), so it doesn't seem to really be an amplifier. But it does help here.
try the EUpod software at +40%... seems to be about right to me... (fanx to someone on here who I can't remember  for pointing me in the right direction - cheers mate  )
