"IPOD connection to passenger footwell" help plea
Hey there
Just joined the site and been looking at the forum for tips on installing the ipod cable into the passnger AUX footwell.
In need of help. Giot the footwell plate off and opened up the multiplug.
I have got the three wires (red, blue & black) and bought myself some 3.5mm cable. (Male to female).
Chopped the end off and got three wires (black, red and white).
No metal sheath like whats in the forums.
Tried connecting them up with connectors and getting sound but very distorted.
Any ideas ???

Welcome to the forum
I don't have this as I have the rear connector, but from past experiences with 3.5mm jacks, the two big culprits would be an earth fault - have you checked the resistance between the connectors you have soldered? - or overdriving the input - are you using the line out or the headphone jack - if the latter, does altering the iPod volume reduce the distortion?

Just got the base 7 seater so not got a rear aux whicih is a pain.
Using an adaptor which goes into the dock of the ipod as l have read in earlier posts that if it goes in the headphone jack it alters the voulme.
I have got the three wires from the footwell (red, blue & black) and the red, black & white wires from the stereo cable.
Not sure is it a straightforward red to red , black to black and white to blue ?
I am not very good with wiring but thought it seemed a good idea to have go

Did the 3 wires in the footwell have a grey sheath over them ?G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

No grey sheath.
Ended up cutting the three wires from the grey mulitplug. It all goes wrong when l try connecting them to the stereo lead.
Got a red, white and black wires from stereo cable.

Yep
thats the plug.
Thats where l got the red,blue and black wires from.
Just opend the plug in half

Well you have the correct wires that side ...its either an earth problem ..or even a dodgy lead ..or just wired up wrong ...try connecting just 2 wires ...say red and black to start with
red to red
black to black
see if the sound is ok with that first ...you have got the sound turned up on the ipod havent you ?G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Ipod voume turned up ok. Will try that tomorrow after work

I tried to connect up at this point but found the volume poor, the Aux multi plug at the back of the gearbox tunnel has an extra black wire
Not sure what this does (Wiggs may know) but it effects the Ipod performance.

Maybe l will give up and invest in the proper landrover kit.
It seemed an easy modification.
I do alot of miles and need my ipod tunes !!

ASTR that the extra black lead has something to do with disabing the input from the AUX socket if there is no Jack plug connected. I have one in there permanently and when AUX is selected it makes buzzing noises that go away when a device is connected to the extension cable. If you have the cable connected in the footwell and have the socket in the back then you need to join the 2 black wires together to make it active. As far as I am aware that doesn't happen when there is no socket installed - but I might be wrong.

Hi guys, what is the best cable to use to hook this mod up to the iphone 3G. I was thinking of using the composite AV cables, which would also double as a charger. I would prefer a different option than the 3.5mm speaker plug. thanks guys.

Any plug that fits into the bottom of the iphone (were the dock lead fits) will give better sound than a lead fitted to the headphone socketG4 Gone ...but not forgotten
