Good thread - I thought I was just getting old, but on a recent long journey I was up to 25+ to maintain a reasonable cabin temperature. Off to have a look at me temp sensor thingy

I'm confused
Have removed the cover to the left of the steering column:

And then there appears to be a little sensor in the middle:
J,
I think the foam was put around the thermocouple bulb you can see in the photo. I guess a section the same shape as the hole with the centre cut out to accommodate the thermocouple. Mine was touching the side so just centralised it and will see if that has made any difference over the next week or so. Failing that will cut out and fit the foam.

I have just found this thread and am so pleased to read about this. Have had my 09 D3 for 6 months and have noticed that it takes ages to heat the cabin up in the cold mornings. Something else to mention to Stratstone!
I put my foam at the back of the plastic and back of the connector which you cannot see in the photos, to get there you need to take the centrer panel trim off and put your hand round the back. I was trying to insulate the heat coming from the heater behind from warming up the sensor bulb.
However since it didn't work it probably is not worth trying my method

No sign of any foam around the thermocouple on mine. No problems on a short journey, but on longer trips I end up cranking up the temp degree by degree so the idea that the sensor is picking up heat from behind the dash and making the sensor think the car is warmer than it is makes sense.
Is there a bulletin number to go along with this? My dealer claims to know nothing!

I have had the same problem, Stratstone MK priced the new sensor at around £20.00 inc VAT, so I have ordered one to try it out to see if it cures/improves the heater. The annoying thing is I lost a clip that secures the trim the price for a single clip is over £3.00!! Forget that 3 out of 4 clips will have to do.
Hopefully this Winter the heater may work consistently.Got lost going home to OZ

The foam is on the trim, clips are FYC500030 retail is £1.37 - less from nick @yeovil LR
Not very cold today - but high winds & plenty of rain whilst out shooting.
The trip home was "cool" heater/air conditioning simply didn't work in the back at all - is there a trick to get airflow in the back?

Have to say the temperature control over the last few weeks of snow has been great even at 22 degrees the car has been nice and warm. Looks like centralising the thermocouple has worked a treat. Regards, Trev.

Just to add my bit, it has been chilly here recently rarely above freezing, however today was +4. FBH running all of the time.
I have the fan speed at number two, 2 orange lights on, set at 18/20 degree's and its very warm. Minus 4/6 last week so put it up to 22 degree's and I have to say it was way too hot. Anything higher and I would have to wear shorts!
My journey to work is less than 10 mins away, but in half that time the cabin has reached temp, though I do let the D3 idle 10 mins before leaving home.
So it does sound like some do have a sensor issue, or some blockage of some sort. However just to confuse matters a mate of mine has a slightly earlier D3 and his heating is useless, he needs the fan on high and the temp on max, and its still luke warm - definitely not right......2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE auto, Cairns Blue, Lamp Guards, LR Roof Bars - Just love it!
