Is the D3 heater really this bad ?
The past couple of days has seen the outside temperature to be around 10degC, and I've had to have the heater turned up to 26-28, and the fan running faster than it does on 'auto' to get the interior of the Disco up to a comfortable temperature - is this right ?
I know that the TDV6 engine is supposedly very efficient, and so doesnt have much excess heat for the heater - but is it really this bad ?
I've got the timer for the FBH, but havent had time to install it.............think I'll have to make time soon, cos if the weather gets any colder I'm not sure that the Disco will be warm enough !!Jim

I never had that issue with my D3, 22-23 was normal and even in very cold conditions, I did not turn it up much above that.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Nah, I'm normally hot, used to run the heater in the Td5 D2 at 21-22, maybe 23 when it was really cold outside. Need to go see the stealer for some other 'issues', so will get them to look at this as well.Jim

jimbo, what year is yours, as on my old 55 plate D3, 20 was comfortable, on new 09 plate I need it to be 23 to feel as warm.

On my old D2 the setting would be 19 in the winter which was fine.
On the D3 the setting is higher, perhaps 21 / 22 but still seems to do the job.

There was a problem on some early D3's where a missing heat shield blanket was affecting the interior temp sensor, and the system thought the car was warmer than it really was.
ISTR that if you pull out the small grill to the left of the steering column, there should be a foam insulator around the temp sensor. If its missing or displaced then the sensor picks up heat from behind the dash and keeps reducing the temperature of the hevac system to try and compensate.
It would be more apparent on a long run.

Mines a 06MY '56 plate...........I'll check the foam insulator in daylight, and if that looks ok, then its a job for the stealer !Jim

160 mile run recently with the heater on 26+ and fast (noisy) fan to get adequate heat - initially I had the heated seat turned on, but I did get into a cold car with wet clothes after walking the dog!
I was contemplating talking to the stealer about the poor heater, particularly as that on my Disco 2 was exceptionally efficient.

I'm not keen on the heated seats.........a bit like that rice that cooks really quickly - boil in the bag !!!
Glad I'm not the only one who is feeling the cold (but only in the D3) - my journeys tend to be long fast A roads/motorway runs (100 - 200 miles at a go), so plenty of time for the engine to properly warm up. The engine temperature gauge always sits fractionally below half way - as it has done since I got the D3 (7 months now), but this will be its first winter with me....!!Jim

This will depend on how far you have travelled , i do 11 miles to work and it could take half that for engine to get to temp, fit the remote FHB set for 30mins and coolant should be warm enought for instant heat.
Remember it doesnt matter what you turn the dial to (20 or max) , thats the max temp cut of not a heat control! If the coolant is not up to temp no heat.
My D3 needs 26-28 on the dial to keep the inside warm, and as Gareth indicated it is more noticeable at the end of in my case a 20+ mile journey.
I will be pulling the grill out tomorrow, is it just held in on clips ?

Yeah, clips as far as I remember.
I have to say that I've never had a car that have kept me as warm as the Disco. I usually keep it at 20 and sometimes at 21, and the heated seats must be sent from heaven.
But I wish the FBH kicked in all the way up to about 10 degrees outside temp..
