This strain of flu would appear to give reduced severity of symptoms the further from Mexico the transmission point is. As of yesterday only one person had died outside of mexico and they contracted it in Mexico.
Who Rolling Eyes (and and dont think they do) knows how the strain will alter as it is transmitted.
Flue pandemic after WW1 killed 250,000, I think thousands die from normal flu each year as it is.
Agree it is government spin. If it goes like the 1918 flu no-one is prepared.

Its a ruse by the government! Think of all the IHT they will get - maybe enough to finance their borrowing!!!

I do feel that we aren't taking it seriously though. Yes seasonal flu kills a lot of people, but past pandemics have killed mainly fit and healthy people (this seems the case in Mexico too) I think it would have been sensible to quarantine those coming back from Mexico for a week in their homes rather than leave them walking round the country at will. But then lets face it this lot have never been good at dealing with viruses; you only have to look at foot & mouth.

Your death figure is out by a very significant factor Shocked

The Spanish flu outbreak of 1918-20 was estimated to have killed more than 20 million people with some suggesting it was closer to 100 million worldwide. Shocked

Not sure I said burning Mexicans anywhere Laughing but sensible precautions would be a good idea and a few thousand holiday makers confined to barracks for a week isn't overkill is it? Viruses are not luck of the draw they are about minimizing risk, be that HIV, F&M or indeed the Flu.

So in a worse case scenario it looks as though they will triage those requiring IC who may have flu and pre-existing conditions from which they may have perished anyway. That all sounds pretty normal TBH

IMO as they are dealing with unknowns it's surely not unreasonable for levels of equipment to meet general demand rather than your expectation of them meeting an exceptional circumstance...no?

Besides in the event of the worst coming to the worst...nice IC manufacturers should surely apply morals over profit and free loan any equipment for the duration Whistle

Ireland 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 Base 5 Seat Manual Tonga GreenDiscovery 3

The Irish Government has said they have vaccine stockpiles adequate to cover 50% of the population, which begs the question, who doesnt get it?

I would like to make the first recommendations:

1) Pikeys
2) Bankers
3) Liverpool fans
4) Minister for Health
