This is the page from my manual...

My work often involves using various multi-stories around the country and with my HSE (roof rails but no PTI) I've been using the following minimum's without incident...

Off-road height = 2m
Normal height = 1.9m
Access height = 1.85m

but also I wanted to state the max speed before the care raises itself. Off the top of my head I think, and you need to check, I think its 15mph. Anymore and the D3 will raise

On mine if you lock (press and hold) into access height it won't raise up even if you exceed the speed limit, you just get a lot of bongs!

I've yet to find a car park that's lower than the stated board and they usually seem to be quiet generous with the allowances but the one thing you should be aware of is ramp angles! I have met a couple of cases where the roof gets uncomfortably close because of the lift in the D3 as it starts to go up an 'up-ramp' Obviously there is a point where the middle of the car is significantly higher than on the level - if you see what I mean! (depends on the shape of the roof)

I now quite enjoy frightening passengers in a couple of London car parks I know well - flying in with just mm to spare really opens their eye's - One day it'll all go wrong!

Damn.

Now I don't trust my manual.

Mine says the same as yours, the sun visor says something different and as mine is an HSE I am damn sure the manual is wrong!

The height restriction at my local tip is 1.85m and in acccess height my HSE squeezes in with a little bit to spare. However the short-stay car park at Gatwick North terminal is stated as 1.85m but the yellow and black rubber bar that hangs above the entrance on chains bounces along the roof rail tracks and then wacks the sharks fin - annoying but as it is rubber there is no damage if you go very slowly. Once inside the car has no problem getting around. You see plenty of RRS and FFRR in that particular car park but not many D3's

Same happens in the YMCA NCP on Tottenham Court Rd in London. Swing bar is set far too low and hits the fin. No problem inside even though the pipe work looks like it will hit the roof.

Cross bars would cause an issue, but anything listed as 1.85 or above should be fine at access height. And even then, once parked you can raise to off road height with loads of room to spare.

The height listed outside will be the lowest point in the car park of course - which could be a set of spaces that are under ducting for example that would catch you out if you revered in. If you see what I mean.

LR list the height as 1.83

If a car park says 1.85, then your covered should you happen to damage anything.

As the driver you can only ever expect to act on the information given to you and nothing else.

Speedferries once tried to charge me extra for going to the check in as under 1.85M - they have a sensor bar at the kiosk. I'd forgotten to go to access as I pulled up. Once I did drop the suspension she re-read the height reading and said all was fine now. I negated to tell her I'd just lowered the D3 - only that she had read the meter wrong Wink She thought her machine was broken Rolling with laughter

Park in the Oracle, D3 fits in both of the car parks, you will notice that the range rovers in there are in normal height as trophy wives don't know how to lower them...

1.83m seems to be the minimum car park height... I have used one in Guildford that was marked 1.83m, it looked tight, but from my friends flat I could see a D3 with crossbars parked on the roof, so I knew with no bars on I was going to be OK!

Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up

BTW - I think the sunvisor measurement is with the sun roof tilted open thus adding to the height.

I've never taken any notice of it TBH and have always followed the info in the manual (as CC says) and on the LR web site with no issue.

Weellll

The car park I was told to park in had a 1.82M height restriction and I decided it was not worth the risk.

Luckily as someone else mentioned the Oracle is 2.1M so sailed in without problems.

Thanks for all the advice.

Like a lot of you I have relied on the "maximum" height bar to indicate the minimum clearance in a car park. However, the other day I entered a car park only to find a second, lower, height indication (which was too low for the D3) Shocked . Luckily I didn't need to enter that area (and that I noticed the 2nd sign) Shocked Shocked .

That's for this thread guys!.

'Twas extremely handy whilst trying to get into an NCP car park in Kensington.

Car park said 1.9m and the visor info said 1.95m

Cheers

Just a quick update on this one people.

Had to go and pick up someone from Gatwick and found the short stay car park had a height barrier of 6ft. (that works out to 1.83cm) I inched my way under the swinging tube that dragged along the roof rails and bumped over the aerial brackets, once I was inside there was more height than I've seen in many other places. I didnt venture off the ground floor so I don't know what the ramps etc are like, but it can be done with care.
Forgot to put it in access.. Embarassed but its safe at ground level.. Whistle

There is a high vehicle short stay car park at Gatwick for the faint hearted. It usually only half full of transits, multi-seat vans and a good selection of Land rovers finest. Just carry on past the car park entrance and look for the signs.

Mmmmm, dived into underground parking in downtown LA the other day, only to find the height bar set at about the same height as the car.

amazed my passenger by lowering the car to access height and crept inside (no way to back out any way!)

Ended up being tons of clearance inside Shocked

I guess there must be one low point somewhere, so they have to set the bar to that....
