In the Winter of 1981/82 Shawbury in Salop registered -28.2 deg C. That Winter I commuted from Nantwich to Heswall and it was - 27 deg C for a week and a foot of snow. It was cold, but you didn't have the mega media hype then, so you just got on with it. Today, unloading 1000 bags of peanuts by hand once you got stuck it became a very pleasant morning. I was in Poland couple of yrs back and in the factory which was -16 C the packers just wore a t shirt and denim type jacket on top.
