Jacking under wishbones
Is it safe to jack the D3 under the wishbones? Seems a lot less effort than jacking the chassis rails as you can get closer to the lift point but don't want to the suspension.2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto
I've done it a number of times with no ill effect, some are indifferent to the practice and yet others scream and wave the elven safe tree manual.
For wheel changing on a sound, level surface with the other wheels adequately chocked it's quicker and safer than an air jack or the lego/marzipan jack that comes with the car. Just make sure the head of the jack is large enough to spread the load over the arm.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

That's what I did when I changed my wheels. Lifted 1 at a time & seemed to be OK. Was done that way in Croisiere on DiscoDuncs too Bodsys Brake Bible
I've done it, I also found it better to lower the suspension to make the wishbones more horizontal.
However I have since bought a large 3 ton trolley jack and turned a round thingy to fit in the hole in the chassis rail which on the drive at least is a whole lot simpler.
