Java Black - easily scratched
Anyone got a problem with their paintwork, especially Java Black. I only have to look at it for scratches to appear [well not exactly true - but near enough]. Even running the back of a fingernail over it gives an apparent scratch!! I've had several black vehicles before, so I know how easily they show up scratches....but not like this one! My thoughts are:-
1] As the vehicle was ordered just after launch [poss at busiest time], could it have missed [or not had enough of] the baking process??
2] I had the optional extra of the Autoglyn body protection applied . Could it possibly be that it's this Autoglyn protection coat thats scratching and not the paintwork itself? Not had the time to cut it back and see [also for fear of putting extra abrassions on paintwork].
By the way, I also had vehicle back to the dealer for Waxoil treatment to the chassis when I complained it was showing more signs of corrossion than I would expect for the age of vehicle.....anybody else???
ALL ANSWERS APPRECIATED.

I have a java black one and even when i picked it up there was 3 scratches on the paint (removed a week later by the dealer)
I must say that you are correct in saying that it scratches very easily.
Even weekly washing can produce scratches.
Every time i wash it i find more , not very impressed. If i could choose again i think i would of picked another colour.
Although when it is washed ,it does look great (all be it for about 1/2 hr untill its dirty again)
I use the wax with colour in (black obviously) and it does tend to remove the very small ones (or should i say colour them in)
And in bright sunshine up close there's what apears to be swirl marks everywere (even though i dont clean it in swirling motions)G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

This site has a lot of good info about cleaning/polishing cars to minimise scratches http://autopia.org/
Hopefully it will help, as I've just ordered a Java Black D3..!

I would agree with you, that whilst black D3's do look lovely when clean and new, they do show scratches, and dare I say it 'dings' more than most other colours. I have a few scratches on my common silver one, and after trying to polish them out, have left them for the moment, as they don't show too much, it's just the 'I know they're there' factor............I have sprayed some waxoil type stuff inside the chassis sections, and had to rub down surface rust in places on bottom of chassis and prime and paint black.(chassis had probably been dragged on factory floor at some stage I guess, yes it is a LR after all ).

DND - re your chassis, why didn't you get it done under warranty as opposed to doing it yourself?

Well it was a few areas where the extremely thin black paint had been scraped off, I felt that I would be doing a better job than dealership, I don't even think the chassis is primed under that thin black coat anyway..... The bits I did will outlast the rest I reckon......I should really get under it and spray it all with waxoil I suppose.

Hi
Yes, mine scratches easily too. Especilly those very thin washing lines that you will have to polish away once or twice a year.
btw mine is in this week to get piant defects fixed (repainted) - lower tailgate, door, d pillars, wheel arch inside rear door.
re. waxoil
I had mine in to get a full waxoil treatment just when i bouhtgt i - full treatment means all underbody, inside frame, inside all chassis cavities including bonnet, doors, tailgates, pillars etc
Its needed here as Denmark has one of the most corrosive climates in the world.
Cheers

JAVA BLACK
I thought that the Java black was a metallic paint with a clearcoat of lacquer,so is it the lacquer that is scratching?

Yep Java Black is very soft but even from this the car comes come up like new
If you enjoy keeping your car mint, esp Java then can I suggest Zaino Polish. www.zainobros.com It works a treat on scratches and swirls in the lacquer, with their Z5 application.
Its a molecular polish which bonds to the paint surface and each subsequent layer of polish applied to build up a protective layer.
