But unfortunately it appears to throw out as much heat downwards as upwards, so to protect the tailgate carpet and Synthetic Canvas load liner I carry a square of Aluminium Honeycomb material with me to put it on.
I know a few on here use a Jetboil, so the question is, do/would you use it on the tailgate without worrying about damaging underneath it?

Absolutely no problems using a JB straight on the tailgate.
As here, the gas can is between the JB and the floor, no heat gets through.

Just remember JBs work best in pairs, they get lonely on their own.

That’s the way to cook up a pouch of rice, can of curry, bung in a bowl & just add mango chutters and a Nan bread. Plus gives you hot water for a coffee and more to do the washing up. Minimum work, maximum results.

Got one of those little canister stands that JB do and its nice and stable. NEver thought about the heat going south Anyway, never a bother.
I did come across a pic of someone who'd replaced the carpet with aluminium, so gave a nice clean prep surface ..... could be your next project A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.

Thanks Davethegeo, I've been unable to use the SportPersuit website as it requires you to join and I never get the confirmation emails to confirm my email address, not even in my Spam folder.
I've tried using my work email address with the same result.
Lady Nasher and I actually decided the Minimo was our best bet as it's not only more suited to warming Soup or Noodles up, but if one of us is out on our own we can eat out of it.
I'm hoping to get back to my earlier years and do some stripped back camping on my own in the next couple of years and it will also work for that.
I'm even considering selling a couple of my current motorcycles so I can buy something suitable to do more distance on and camp from it.
When we've had a play we might buy a Flash or Zip to compliment it.

I don't do my boiling or cooking on the tailgate [just the prep], for fear of accidental spillage and resultant damage.
I use the Jetboil on the ground [with one of these little stands Tanters mentioned], also with a pegged-in Alu windbreak surround.
For more serious stuff, [especially with my twin burner] I use my foldable Alu work platform for cooking/eating/dishwashing etc and also for accessing the roof rack.I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

this is the problem with this Forum
you start looking at things you never knew you needed just in case your missing out on something
started looking at the different jetboils then came to my senses as I have a perfectly good Coleman dual fuel
and thats fine on the tailgate as well.

Mines not a jetboil but from Alpkit, hall the price of a JB and does exactly the same job.
