...however the sat nav in the D5 is fantastic and you get OTA updates and frequent map update downloads
Bet they stop being provided once the D6 comes out
It follows the FU attitude from JLR, the same thing happened with updates for the D3 nav when the D4 came out and now the same after the D5 introduction.

Funny how I’m sure merc or volvo offer a software update for approved used cars, to make its software up to date!
Regarding JLR, I bet some of it has to do with the cost of the tech, new cars you don’t get free traffic alerts for example...you need your own sim etc.
Maybe if the updates were cheaper more would buy it. Considering 66plates aren’t yet 2yrs old it’s bad formMike

I’ve yet to use the sat nav in my Velar, I’ve done 2 updates since I got it which take about 4 hrs to download to the USB stick and another 10 minutes to install to the car.
Only used the one in my D5 once and my D4 never had it at all. Google maps for me.
Even the new one ain’t brilliant

IIRC … Jaguar once had a sat-nag system they declared defunct after just a couple of years. So by that standard, we've done well in the D4. (says he on 2011 maps)

On my MY14 Volvo V70, I got complementary European map update packs (a few DVDs), once a year, for three years after purchase. Haven’t bothered with the updates since, the price is 150-200 IIRC. They send out a letter annually whether I’m interested to buy.
On the previous V70 (MY10) update packs behaved similarly except delivery format was CD. European map updates came on 4-5 disks. It took 4+ hours to update, one had to feed each disk separately, wait it to load 650 MB, uncompress, etc. fortunately the process continued across car restarts.
The Sensus system is AFAIK internet based and does not require any map update packs anymore.
As for software updates, Volvo really does upgrade car firmware annually. They always ask when the car goes for its scheduled checkup whether they may do it and usually I get a paper saying subsystem X or Y has been flashed.

But you drive very slowly, so it's probably ok.

Same here re 2011 maps on the D4. Takes me back to the atlas I bought for my first car in the late eighties, it had half the M25 missing. Think Death Star in Return of the Jedi.

Well I have to say that the Sat Nav and voice activation to making phone calls is a joke thank god for tom Tom, JLR will loose me as customer after the D4 unless they have a change of direction,
