Just moved from D2 to D3

Picked up my new to me D3 last Thursday. Its an 06 SE Auto with 85k on the clock. Not perfect, few age related marks, worst problem is the leather on the side of the drivers seat has given up and needs sorting but overall very happy.

Drove up in my D1 with a car trailer, swapped when I got there and towed the D1 home, nothing like a good a workout to make sure its all good

And now, if you're anything like me, you start to spot the things you wished you'd spotted whilst you were looking at it before you paid for it.

I'm still doing that.

Glad it's not just me then. My shopping list and niggle resolutions have stopped - I hope - at just under £2000. I'm not looking for anything else now!

Was adamant I didn't want another project as have enough to do on the D1 and thought I'd learned my lesson after having a TD5 for 4 years, was all set to buy a Focus or Mondeo type vehicle and my Brother in Law gets himself an 05 plate FFRR and set me off on another LR quest Laughing

Ive had several D1 and a D2 all had non stop snag lists to keep them reliable and on the road, the D3 I bought 3.5 years ago has been a revelation for me, with the odd niggle nothing to vor it or caseu it to not work, but essentailly just like any normal boring car, service it and drive it, repeat and so on.

The D1 is really agricultural but its an off road toy so not too bothered, my D2 I loved to bits, 03 ES Manual so had lots of toys plus was comfy and fast, well it did have the Bell Autos VVT, big Allard intercooler, 3 bar MAP sensor mod and tidy remap, de EGR/DPF and straight through centre pipe, surprised quite a few vehicles including some D3's and still gave me 28mpg average

Kept it on air plus ACE meant you could really hustle it along

But the chassis was getting quite crisp and had been repaired to the point where even a half chassis wasn't enough to sort it out so had to go. I did toy with putting a galv chassis on it but too many projects and not enough time killed that idea

But the D3 is here and am really enjoying it so far

Get a nice bright torch and really really study the sills from under the car especially the bottom where the inner and outer over lap each other, this is going to be the D3s weal point rot wise.

If that’s where I think about it mine were looking well ropey there for years, but never seemed bad enough to need sorted. MOT testers would point it out and say will need sorted for next time, it was alway a sort for next year job. Unfortunately there is a bigger Achilles Heel that lives just behind the rad. Sad

I got an aerosol tin of chain/wire lube frome bay and soaked the inside of both sills and anythwere I could see on the outside, this years job is to wax the whole underneath, but I want to do front arms first otherwise I will get filthier than normal!

Work started, well it is a LR

A few days after buying the rear tailgate latch stopped working, could open it with the 2 button press on the dash but tailgate switch was a no go. Ordered a replacement from PowerfulUK cos they could get it to me next day and then chopped the loom and soldered in the replacment.

Gave it an engine oil & filter change plus fuel, air and pollen filters plus EGR blank and removal of the EGR butterfly.

While I was in there I noticed the timing belt cover looks like it hasn't been off for many years but according to the documentation I had with it the belt has allegedly been changed in the last 5000 miles so another job to add to the list Evil or Very Mad

Today it started making noise from the brakes, looks like pads have just about had it. It also developed a wobble through the steering under braking a few days after picking it up.

Was already planning the V8 brake upgrade so ordered a complete Delphi kit off Advanced Factors today with next day delivery (used the forum discount code Thumbs Up ) and they should be here tomorrow
