Thanks for the replies!

I have no idea if the valves are still in place and just not connected or removed entirely.
Yes I did get it MOT'd there the last year.

So it's currently an MOT fail if they are not fitted but only a visual inspection.
Anyone know if this changes in April??

And does a whole days to fit them and the Mass Airflow sensor at £1250 including parts sound a bit steep to you guys?

If you do get them reinstated, their quote can easily be almost halved...

Thanks for that.
The Disco also has a battery drain if left for a few days. So far it's cost me £250 in labour to find out they can find nothing wrong with it with regards to that, maybe my battery has a bad cell. Oh and the EGR and mass airflow sensor fault.
I would have thought that plugging it into their diagnostics computer and running a few tests for 30 minutes would have given them all that information and would not require 4 hours of work???

I'm going to go retrieve it today.

Cheers for your time guys Wink

How could you possibly win an MOT fail appeal in mythical example of garage knowing no egrs fitted? Conversation as follows;

Vehicle owner - Garage unfairly failed my car at MOT saying I’ve got no egr’s fitted but it’s a visual only so he can’t tell if I have or I haven’t ....... Censored

MOT appeal panel - but you haven’t got egr’s fitted have you Confused

Vehicle owner - er, erm..... Embarassed

Hi,

Note the title says the tester said it will fail AS OF APRIL

New MOT laws state

"Engine Management Light is now a major fail. It must come on with the ignition and then turn off when the engine is started"

Plus some stuff about DPFs and emissions.

So if the EML light is on, as it is, it WILL fail. If the hack is done to make sure that EML light goes off, but EGRs blanking is not visible AND the car passes the emissions test its ok.

But ALL of that is only in APRIL, so its not a fail now, but it probably will be in April. The title did also say NEEDs EGRS, which is dont think is the case, providee the EML light goes out and the car passes the emissions test.

Time will tell on EGR blanked vehicles post April

Ps Did I mention APRIL enough Wink

There's going to be a good little side line for garages to sell "pre-MOT checkup", i.e. switch the EML light off. Will do that myself in the carpark before it goes in. That lasts a good number of miles and starts.

And before anyone complains I'm going to single handedly wipe out the polar bears, my emissions were absolutely fine at the last MOT. It's just a fault oxygen sensor and not worth half the value of the car just to make a stupid light go out. Rolling Eyes

btw have trigger done a couple of times a year to ensure he doesn't spew out loads of black smoke on acceleration which has got to be good for the environment Rolling with laughter

ref the egr blanks

has anyone seen these, came across them a little while ago , ref holes drilled in the blanking plates

quote

Plates can be supplied with a small hole in the centre, this allows a small amount of gas through the plate to prevent the engine management light coming on on some vehicles.

good job they have a no quibble returns policy , seeing they say in there quote SOME vehicles , Whistle
