Key stuck in ignition lock

Sorry, got another one!

Every so often my key gets 'locked' in the ignition barrel. I've tried just turning the ignition on and off but this only confuses the poor car and throws up error messages on the dash!
I 'think' the answer is to do with the gear shift (Auto) and that not telling the ignition lock to let go.
Can anybody tell me what to adjust and where to adjust it please?

There was a post on another forum which said the cable to the gearbox adjuster was loose and to do it up, but I can't find any adjusting or tightening nut under the gearshift trim.

when it does it, check that the gearbox illumination has the red P (not R) (ignition I will need to be on)

and that the display in the speedo near the milage also says P not R

If that looks ok, have a look on the lock barrel .
If the solonoid is separate with 2 pin connector, just disconnect the bloody thing.

What they did on the D2

Typical isn't it, I went out to the car and guess what key in ignition on, ignition off and the key comes out!
Tried moving the gear shift with the ignition on a few times and still the key comes out! When it next happens, if it does, I'll see if the indicator shows anything incorrectly.

Interesting your thoughts, my last D3 had the symptom of when going round a sharp corner after, say traffic lights, it would go into neutral for a second or so as the transmission moved a little. The cure for that was the new bracket and bolt bits down on the side of the transmission, I never thought it could work the other way and stop it going into park!
Seems logical!
I'll have a look at the linkage over the weekend and see if it looks corroded and a bit seized.

it might be your key, one of ours needs a very slight lift to pull it out.

Don't think it is the key as I have three and they all do/did it.
It doesn't happen every time so is a bit difficult to find the reason!

I'm going to look for the gear indicator in the dash to see if that says P or R and also make sure the red P comes on.
Also I'm going to have a look at the linkage next to the gearbox where the rod goes to see if that is corroded.
