Keyless thefts - Some info...

We've all watched the videos, where cars are parked securely on the drive, and they are gone in under 30 seconds...

I was sent this, this evening

I've blanked out the Web page for obvious reasons, but makes for worrying reading... The device is quite literally half the size of an IID Tool

Worryingly, they claim to have a "solution" for the latest 22MY cars too. And not just JLR either

What do you recommend Disco Mikey?

It is indeed worrying.

Ghost and a Disklok?

I kind of feel that wherever you leave your car regularly is where it is most vulnerable. So my garage is where it is most vulnerable and therefore it isn't so..

If I park unexpectedly overnight in London and it goes I'll feel gutted and that the problem is rampant..

We await the statistics on the new FFRR and see what happens to that... New RRS is just around the corner too....

Dummy OBD

If they can't plug it in, they can't start it...

This device is in very common use…the retailer selling it is a supposedly genuine locksmith with a High Street store herein London.. sold with no questions asked… there was a Daily Mail expose a few years ago when he was selling the key rebroadcaster devices…
There is currently no legislation preventing the sale of these devices! It is something I am currently campaigning the Home Office for change.
Their excuse is they are selling the devices to genuine locksmiths…….

Ghost immobiliser and fake obd plug would go some way to protect your car!

Shocking that it’s so easy to crack manufacturers latest security. Doesn’t take long to find quite a few places dealing in these.
I’m gutted to find my L 663 Defender on the list of cars that can be ‘emergency started’ without a key!
At least I’ve got a decent steering lock on it. It’s a PITA though to have fit it and store it.

I find myself wondering who reads these threads... as we all discuss how we might defeat the bad guys armed with their new tech and a baseball bat....

The dummy OBD. Is it that simple because if I'd spent £3k on some kit to steal £60k motors I am thinking I might think to pull the OBD out like a kid pulls a twitching fishing line and bang, there's the real one...

Anyone here defeated a theft with a dummy OBD?

As I say, let's see how new FFRR fares....

Dummy OBD and then a hidden or remote operated switch wired to one of the PCM/EMS signals. Even if they find the original OBD they'll have a job to find where the interrupted circuit is.

Further to the above, can I use a three way OBD cable as below, cut the cables going to the replaced OBD port but leave the power cables in place so when a device is plugged in it’s still powers up but no data is transferred and then run an extension cable to elsewhere in the car?

IE. Move the port to another place but put in place a fake powered port.

Three way cable.

Extension cable.

Re: Keyless thefts - Some info...

Just did a basic google search and loads of U.K. companies selling them for a range of cars not just LR, crazy.
