What kind of Courtesy Cars have you been given for Warranty

My year old HSE has gone in for some warranty work (new Turbo, suspension leg kit and some software issues) it has now been in a week and I've just been phoned with some bad news -

The Turbo is on back order and at present they have no idea as to when it will arrive, the suspension kit should be done by Monday. Thing is I have got a ropey 1.6 Focus as my Courtesy Car and the inference is that I could be expected to keep this over Christmas if the parts do not arrive!

I am spending Christmas in London and Devon and as I don't drink I will be the one driving on the theatre trips and when visiting and as such need 7 seats. The Focus has a collapsed drivers seat and is giving me backache.

So the question is:- do other dealers give comparable cars to those being worked on and have I any right to demand comparable car for the Christmas period? ( I have been OK with the current car for the last week but will be seriously inconvenienced if I have it for Christmas).

Anybody had the same problem

Cheers
Nick

If it's warranty work then you should expect a reasonable replacement.... Wink

Shukers in my experience have always given me either Freelander, D3 or RRS. Also had Defender's a few times by choice (they are fun to drive) and was once asked if I would have one as another customer needed the D3 due to family necessity.

I'd speak nicely to the Service Manager and explain the situation: if it's a decent dealership, I'm sure they'll try and help you out. It's unreasonable to inconvenience you like that over Christmas.

Took my TDV6 SE in for a service today and was given a V8 SE as the loaner. Nearly rammed something at the first roundabout: I guess I'm just too used to that take-off lag!

Ask your dealer to do better, then phone customer services if they don't play.

Thanks for the replies, I have put the situation to the Service Manager who said he will "explore possibilities" I first wanted to know what was normal at other dealers.

If I call out LRA will they give me another car when mine is drive able but "rough" it hesitates and makes grating noises from the Turbo?

My dealer used to give out Freelanders but has now changed to Foci (sp)

Take yours from the dealer call LRA They will recover it. Enterprise will call you to supply you with another vehicle. When they ask you what car you require, say you need to get about 3/4 tonne of equipment in the back and 4 blokes in the front. You will get a D3 or RR. Enterprise have a fleet of D3s and RRs specifically for LR breakdowns. Wink

My local dealer (Hartwell Oxford) uses Ford Focus too. It looks like they only have three of them also, so you have to book well in advance.
They used to use battered old Ford Ka's before, but these are now used by their staff when they are collecting customer vehicles from home.

I too have tried to get a better car on many occasions, but the best I've ever got is the service managers Freelander 1 on loan for the day when my D3 was in.

If you have issues with your car call LRA then LR have to supply you a vehicle not the dealer. Your dealer will prefer you to do this because it free's up their courtesy cars. If its a service then that is a different matter.

My dealer, Lancaster Reading, uses Freelanders. Have one today as my car's tranfer 'box is being replaced. Replacing rear diff didn't cure transmission backlash so they would seem to be working their way along the transmission chain.

I've just booked mine into Lancasters this morning for it's 1st service. Never used them before, but they are cheaper than Hartwell Oxford and only 15 mins further, so I thought I'd try them.

Lancaster do have a D3 available too, or at least they've given me one before now but there again possibly they'll do anything to get rid of me nowadays Whistle
