Think I've been stung then for the privelage of ordering from TP Sad

There are two versions on the website, one is just a pattern filter and the other is a kit which also modifies the air box. I guess there might be a difference between the two prices.

according to the blurb, these filters are designed to be used 'oiled' ...

Maximum Filtration!
A K&N filter is designed to be oiled. The oil that is held in suspension by the cotton gauze material acts to stop even the smallest dirt particles from entering your engine. As dirt builds up on the outside of a K&N filter, it acts as part of the filter media further extending the filter's service life.

so do they arrive oiled or do you have to buy the oil as an extra before using it?

If it's just the filter then the one I got from Scorpion in London came well oiled.... and has been washed out at each service, oiled up again and slipped back in wonderfully.

Dont know about modifying the box tho Neutral

hi yall
got my k+n from tp at driffield show £50 all in for cash.maybe coz it was sunday afternoon and the guy on the stall looked extremely bored and p Censored sed off ha ha!
fitted before i went home took bout 5 mins.seems ok,not stunning difference but its only an air filter.i always get a k+n for my cars and always put the sticker on the air box,so the idiots at the dealers dont throw it away, also you get a note in the box saying that your waranty will not be effected by the use of the filter.
to be quite honest how can any dealer or car manufacturer complain about anything that aids the engine and keeps it in good condition

They would no doubt state that it doesn't provide the same level of filtration as a (their) paper filter (I can't comment)....

Just got a panel filter from DRB in Warrington next day £38.

Checked my filter this morning 22K, bear grylls could have survived a month on the bugs on the original.

As the second price the K&N 57i kit costs £289, about the same price as a tank of shell diesel.
Also warned the 57i Kit knackers the MAF as induction stub is too short.
The opinion of some boffin in the office, not mine. Whistle

Can those who have a K&N filter fitted comment on if it really makes enough difference to be worthwhile?

Does it make much difference to a standard D3 or would you only really be able to benefit from the increased flow in a re-mapped one?

Kind of related but I ran an ITG in my Stage 2 JE tuned D2, mpg was very consistant but performance started to drop only after approx 88k miles fitted. New ITG fitted and she was good to go. I currently have an ITG in my (JE tuned) D3. Hard to assess the filter on its own as she was tuned at the same time.

I remember the K&N clean/oil cycle from rally days 20yrs ago, I don't miss it but the performance of the filters seemed OK then. Looking at the latest the technology is the same so tried and trusted, might be worth bearing in mind that I expect the average K&N doesn't do a high mileage (my rally car didn't), so there might be very few users with true high-mileage experience.

...and you could just take the std filter out and drive down the road, if you don't notice any difference then then you certainly won't with any performance filter...
 Cheers

If doing so at this time of year then I'd recommend something (pair of tights) over the air intake to stop insects being ingested....and pick a tarmac road with not much traffic then you'll minimise the dust and rubber particles around.
 Cheers

Slightly Off Topic, but myself & some others here use an ITG filter.
I chose to fit this instead of a K&N ,as Abbott Racing, who I've used for the last 15 years for various mods., prefer ITG filters. Turbochip also recommended them.
Sorry, I'm not techy enough to explain the difference, but I can say that I've been happy with mine. Iirc, the cost was c.£50.
Mine was fitted at the same time as it was re-mapped by T/C, so I can't give an accurate before & after appraisal.
Edited to add. J E Engineering use ITG http://www.jeengineering.co.uk/links.htm
