I wonder if this is an exercise in paperwork, ie we’ve checked on the pooter and your car is fine so if your engine does go bang then it’s your fault, not theirs. Plus will prob blame driving style. Whistle Whistle

Did they say what they were looking for?

I wonder if they are monitoring the injector values.

I think they check the oil pressure ad idle and low rpm when the oil is hot.....but it is my thought...

By the way I just ordered this one:

Isn’t there a danger that you might blow out some seals and gaskets with that?

Personally I’ve been looking at installing a simple mechanical old school oil pressure gauge. It looks like it might be possible to fit a T piece to the current oil pressure switch orifice, and then fit the switch and gauge pressure pipe to it.

I too have been looking at this - could we please have a separate thread, and maybe ultimately Thumbs Up a group buy?

humm.

you maybe able to get a comined oil light and gauge output signal. THey do exist.

The location on the tdv6 is a pain for doing these things. unless you fit it else where.

Thinking about it, maybe someone did that already on here.

Joe from Oval Autos wrote somewhere about monitoring kit they fitted to Discos which they were testing after fitting a rebuilt engine.

What we could do with is some way of measuring & displaying oil pressure, or at least giving a warning in the form or a light or warning sound, preferably both, when the oil pressure drops.

As has been said access is difficult for something physical; could we more easily access the Disco's electronics for this purpose.

I think many D4 & D3 members would be prepared to buy a suitable solution.

there is no oil pressure sensor so that cars electronics can't display it.

You already have an engine oil light. Laughing I know its more of a "replace engine light"

Old vauxhalls used to have a 2 stage light. Dim when it was getting near the limit. and bright for the normal function.

The problem is that when the oil is hot and the engine idling, there isn't a massive difference between normal and low.

I recall Metro MG Turbo's disabled the fuel pump when there was no oil pressure. But on a D3 there would be too much delay.

I don't know what you expect to acheive anyway.
There is no early warning sign. As soon as the shell rotates and blocks the oil way, it is game over.
THere is no early warning. I'm not even sure the oil light would come on. As oil is still reaching other places I assume

This is Joe's pressure dials connected up to my TDV6 in the RRS. It's nothing flashy, but does the job it needs to do. The oil pressure is measured at two points: at the oil filter housing using an oil filter cap that has been fitted with a sensor and then somewhere lower down in the engine which I'm not sure about.

On his test & development engines, he also measures the pressure in a third place I believe.

A quick, crude, transition,

Top line says ‘Test passed’
Bottom line says ‘Carry on using it as recommended by the operating manual’
