Landy theft prevention

Had a visit from some people this evening who were insistant I sell the Disco 3 to them. Took them a long time to accept no for an answer.

Got me a bit concerned that they might decide to take it for themselves later. Any recommendations for added security (steering locks or pedal locks)? Best way to disable the vehicle? Thought about pulling a relay, but cannot find a list of what each does? Any recommendations for that?

Thanks

Easy and immediate step, take off the gear shifter. Thumbs Up

It's an auto. Can that be removed easily?

That's a good tip.

Under the bonnet, is a fuel pump relay and starter relay.

Knowing these cars, the car may still run without the fuel pump relay Laughing

So you could remove the relay marked SM. Maybe too obvious. I dunno

There is a large fuse marked SM. That maybe more scuttle

I had thought about removing the Fuel Pump relay initially, but then thought that might cause issues if I then forgot and tried to start it. I didn't know what the "SM" relay was, but if it's the starter then that sounds a good option.

Thanks

Blimey , sorry to hear that mate and indeed bet that made u feel uncomfortable , I’ve had a couple of people knock on my door asking about selling mine but nothing as aggressive as that

Do have a ring door bell so I wonder if that may also deter people knocking on ur door knowing there being recorded , additionally maybe a ring video spotlight ,

Good idea regarding the easy removal of the auto gear selector

Plus i assume they can’t hack the ignition system or clone a keye like the wireless D4 , another idea is what about one of those posts that raise / lower installed in front of the disco

of a night time I also ensure both my keys are well out the way , fingers crossed they don’t try and hassle u again

Unfortunately, I didn't get a reg. number. They were parked on the road outside my front gate, in a white van with flat bed. Wife answered the door and bloke (early to mid thirties) says he wans to buy the Landy. My wife said it belongs to me and that I wouldn't sell it, but he keeps on at her to fetch me. He spins me a line about why he wants it, and everytime I say no to selling he keeps on "but how much will you take". Then he offers £800 cash there and then. I say no, "OK a £1000" then. Mine is probably worth around £3-4K. Took 5 to 10 minutes for him to get the message that I wasn't going to give in.

Fortunately, I do have video cameras at the door, as well as security lighting. Plus the Dobermann helps! But, just felt that given his insistant nature that it might be best to take a few added precautions. Funny thing is, the car does have a couple of issues, which will require some quite expensive work in time, so it wouldn't be a good buy for anyone. I keep it because it's perfect for my needs, being a seven seater (for the kids) and room to carry dogs securely in the back.

By the way, it doesn't have keyless ignition, so thankfully I don't have to worry about that.

Similar story happened to a friend who owns a Dodge Challenger - two guys appear at door wanting to buy it, won't take no as an answer, then wanted to rent it for a Wedding, then invited him to his Wedding etc

Very bizarre and you just don't know if they are sussing out you, the house, the security etc

Don't know how effective it would be but I hid a Apple Air Tag in my LR so that if it did go you can at least attempt to track it.
