Thanks for all the advice and comments.
I take your points on the door closing issue but I assure you it wasnt going anywhere!. But will take on board for next time.
The trip was a reccie and none of us thought it would be that hard as Nick said he'd done it previously and it was tame (albeit 10 years ago he informs ).
Thank goodness I brought the tyre inflator last week.............woke up to 2 flat left tyres........... pumped up enough to get to the local fitter but the rear was peeing out air at a fair rate. Turns out that the side walls bent and let some stones in between the rim and tyre seal. All cleaned and repair and of to see Ken for some ATR's!!!!.

It also shows how deceptive pictures can be. As I recall your car was pointing down hill at the time of the picture so any traction loss may have activated the door self closing procedure.

And there was you saying to me ALL your lanes are non-damaging. Neil, you need to reign in your enthusiasm before SWMBO has your NUTS in a vice and releives you of the keys forever.
With you having Side Steps I thought in the future I would be safe on more excursions.

To be honest it was the steps and tyres that were the main problem. We still needed the sandboards for all cars to travel over the elephant step.
It was even more rutted and servere going up and down the other side.
After the sand board exploits it was a 'go as fast as you can or you wont make it' type of trip!. Deep ruts, muddy, wet and hill.....................mind you, looking back it was but at the time it was

Hi Neil,
Appologies for delay, actually had to do some work today! Thanks for yesterday, really enjoyed the run out and the company. As I said yesterday, I have driven past those track entrances on the A3 for 30 years and thought I must have a look down there sometime, and now I have!
Hope the wheel / sidestep damage did not spoil the trip. Pic's below... All taken in a rush so not that crisp, I'll try better next time. If Simon (Spotter) or any others are up for it I'm happy to join in anytime.
Thanks again for sorting!! Also a good evening at the Fairmile
Off Roading is OK.... But I'd rather be Boating!
