At my dealers today they had a TDV6 7 seat basic with black leather seats. The salesman tells me that Landrover have "built 50" of the base spec but installed leather clad seats to "test market reaction". Apparently Land Rover finally realises that anyone shelling out around £30k for a vehicle expects to be sitting on leather not cloth. I suspect the cloth seats wont be around much longer then ..... Pity really if it's true, I'm no fan of leather. I'd rather they offered both fabrics in all trim levels/seat versions. Part of the reason for buying my S then adding on options that weren't standard on that model was due to SE and HSE only being available with leather seats. If the choice was there I would have most likely ended up spending more money with you LR! The End

You can bet that if they are going to give lower spec models leather the prices will go up.

true, to get leather you have normaly to go to the SE and above but if you look at a lot of the 'competition' price-wise, not in capability you'll probably find it's quite similar there too? perversely though leather when had in dark colours tends to be more practical than cloth seats and cheaper to match-up and repair if needed. and theeeeennn......???

Leather would have been the only option (apart from met paint) I would have liked on my base 7 seater. Would help with the resale too (not that likely for the next 8 years or so...).
I know that you can get it done aftermarket from Exmoor trim, but I like the idea of factory fit leather. Discovery 3 tdv6 7 seat Buckingham Blue

I was never a fan of leather seats - make you sweat, slip and slide. Then 7 years ago we bought a new Frontera that came with leather as a standard and it was a revalation. Modern leathers do not make you sweat they were far more practical than cloth it didn't matter what went on them, mud, blood, milk, juice or vomit it all came off. I'd never go back. I agree, leather is just so much easier to keep clean. It also adds that certain something to an interior
Never ceases to amaze me how the quality of leather varies so much from manufacturer to manufacturer though. The leather in my Audi is lovely, whereas the leather in the new Golf is dreadful.

It has to be said that the leather in the D3 base seven seater in the showroom certainly didn't look "high quality or premium leather" and neither did the seats themselves. Ceratinly not the same as the items fitted to the HSE's. Disco 4 TDV6HSE

On the Disco's, is there a difference between the leather quality on an SE and HSE, as there is with the RRS? Matt

I have an HSE and I don't think that the leather quality is that great. However, it certainly is hard-wearing and easily repels the assaults of four year old kids! I have always gone for leather since having kids as it does not soak up the inevitable spills.
If you want good quality leather, then I would go for an after-market solution as they will use softer cured leathers and have a greater range of colours. Of course, softer leathers will crease more.
It does amaze me that a car this expensive even has non-leather as anything but an option.

I bought the base 7 seater in June 2005 and added 3rd party leather trim from a coach builder. Although the seat shape isnt as good as my friends HSE the leather quality and fit is at least as good, and I would suggest better.
Leather for all 7 seats cost £1500 and I could have chosen contrasting piping & micro perforations if desired. D3 Bonatti Grey TDV6
