Light bar
Hi
Would it be ok to wire my light bar to the main beam,it is on a separate switch at the moment with inline fuse and relay.
I have concerns about the load and upsetting any ecus bringing up faults.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks

As long as you use a relay for the main current/supply for the spotlight/lightbar and connect only the trigger wire to the main beam. You get no issues…Best regards

In most of Australia any auxiliary light like spots/light bars must to wired to only come on when high beam is on and must be switched separately, on my D1 i had it switched from low beam as it was mainly used for slow offroad work where the spread of light in thick bush was excellent.

Thanks guys, the bar I purchased on this forum and the picture is the sellers car, mine is identical but never had a picture so used his hope he doesn't mind.
So as said if I use the main connection (live feed to the light) will I still need the inline fuse or will the headlights fuse/relay be sufficient?
I will post picture of my D3 later as I have been struggling with chemo at the moment but well on the way to remission 🤞.

O yea it comes from our foreign friends from the east but don't let that put you off this is my second one,I sold the first one on this site as it was curved and roof mounted(that's available to see in my pictures).
I bought this as the guy fitted into the grill so It was just plug and play easy peasy lol.pete truckle

Hi
I have wired in the light but it continuously flashes on and off when main beam is actuated.
I have by-passed the relay and fuse and went for a straight through connection and the light still flashes on and off.
The wire I tapped into is the blue/slate wire as some call it, or blue/grey wire as others call it on the passenger side.
Any thoughts please
Thanks

As said above, you need a separate relay for the powersupply to the LED bar (straight from the battery and fused ofcourse) and only attach the triggerwire to your mainbeam…Best regards

Hey Trucks, you’re looking to wire up something like this. Spots will only come on with main beams and switch allows you to choose that they don’t.

Cant think of anything that would cause the light to flash, apart from too little current, check and double check the pin wiring in the relay, it’s very easy to get mixed around and connect them up wrong (don’t ask how I know lol)2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

Will let you know how I get on with it tomorrow obviously something wrong somewhere,by the way is legal to have a light bar fitted this way,I only ask as I remember there were certain stipulations on spots and other added lighting such as distance apart, heights ,brightness etc etc.pete truckle

Hi
Light bar working fine now after searching the Web,it seems after my search many other people have had the same problem,
It all stems from the wire from the headlight to the relay,I had it wired wrong.
I used the diagram attached and it works as it should.
I also added this answer I copied from the Web for any others on the forum who wish to do the same fitting.
It's flickering because you tapped your headlight power. Just tap into the cigarette lighter or use the battery to power the switch. The pulses from the headlight are going through the switch making your relay have those pulses causing your LED bar to flicker.
Obviously it could be wired with a on/off/on switch in the cab if you wanted to use the light without the headlights on and run it of the auxiliary battery as i had previous.
Another issue solved thank again for your input
Pete
