Lightning strikes twice (That BN feeling)
Hi all,
I must be one of the unluckiest D3 owners around (in the same league as BN, & Woody 179, & Big Al?)
The reason for this is I tried to collect my brand new 06 D3'S' replacement for the one I already have, which has been a bit of a pain on the reliability front. Anyway I got less than 1 mile from the forecourt when the car sank to the bump stops and spat out multiple errors.
Needless to say a swift U turn took place and delivered the car to a somewhat embarrased dealership, where the car now still resides whilst they try and sort it out.
Just thought I'd post this to give other potential buyers the good news that the duff ones keep landing in the same hands so the good un's are aplenty

Sorry to hear about that, hopefully it will be something very simple, like a loose connector. I have only had a couple of faults with my replacement and both of them were sorted by turning off and then on again. I hope you get your car back in full working order soon.1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

So do I, its the time I've invested in the D3's that means I'm so attached that I want one that works.
At least I'm still on first name terms with the guys at the dealership, but I think they think my private plate is jinxed on a D3

What the dealerships and LR forget is that the continual trips back to them is not just a pain, but seriously time consuming and costly to the owners.

Correct, and although builds relationships, it doesn't necessarily build goodwill

My visit with the second D3 worked out to over 2000 miles in travel to and from the dealer with 10 working days lost. That is not funny.

Hello MVS I too believed lightning would not strike twice but it did, after only 700 miles in my replacement Discovery 3 the dreaded suspension faults happened again which resulted in a new compressor a week ago. Touch wood everything seems to be okay although the Discovery now no longer lifts from access height smoothly as it did before instead juddering as it goes up. On a side issue I have noticed when turning at low speeds I sometimes get a knocking sound from the front of the Discovery usually if the ground is a bit uneven, I will monitor this and see if it gets anymore frequent. I still think the new Discovery is fantastic and my dealer couldn't be more helpful.

Diagnosis Rodent attack!
Discovery 3 ver.2- Fatally wounded.
Reason; some pesky rodents eaten half the wiring, so its no wonder it spat out errors and sank onto it's knee's. I haven't seen it myself yet but will in the near future. Dealer thinks it's going to need a full loom to be on the safe side.
Needless to say this car has been rejected formally. So await D3 ver.3
Might be worth you guys who leave their cars out at night making sure they leave some bait out under the car, as they've had a feast on this one by all accounts. Dealer trying to trace where the car has been to try and get to the bottom of the problem. If you see any droppings that look like wiring when you take yours in for a service, be worried..... be very worried.

My dealer is tracing back where the car has been. It was at another/ordered by another Stratstone dealership before it was diverted to mine for me.
I don't think the rodents will have been at the factory, more likely an external compound somewhere
They'll just have to make sure they change the flavour of the loom at the factory to make them less attractive to the critters
