I made some axle stands when I was a student, some well, some years ago,
Basically made out of 'kin great bits of steel and welded - then tested with a 4tonne press. No flex or movement at all.
Compared to my 2tonne rated Halfords specials, they are massive - my home brews are probably good for 8tonnes.
However, whilst I do use them for somethings, I always have secondary supports in place if I work under the car and have taken wheels off etc. Mark.
