Which live value to monitor in IID tool? (boost)

Hi,

I have a thread I started here about a whine/screech/squirrely sound that happens 1800-200RPM on a steep hill.

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/screeching-...78211.html

I've just changed my aux belt stuff and same noise so I would like to see if I can flag this as:

1. Mechanical (PS pump, water pump, diff or other); or
2. Boost- related (crossover pipe, turbo pipes, intercooler etc)

What can I monitor in my BT IID to help me put this into one of these categories? I was experimenting the other night but was slightly overwhelmed by the settings. manifold temp/pressure, boost 1 or 2 etc . Also any advice on logging would be appreciated. I tried to capture some output but it just looks like flat lines when I try to access.

Thanks,

Andy

If its not black smoking as the noise is happening, you will most likely find the boost pressure is near enough correct.
What you have to bear in mind as its a screech its going to be a small leak, a bit like us when we whistle.

As the engine breather is routed into the engine air intake side of the system, if its a leak on the cold pressure side (from turbo to inlet manifold) there will almost certainly be a small tell tale sweat/misting of oil with dirt stuck to it.

If on the other hand its on the exhaust side (cyl head to the turbo) thats going to be a lot harder to find. Have you searched for the link pipe that joins RH bank to the LH bank? as these can split.

Many thanks for your reply. Having had the gearbox out to change clutch 2 weeks ago I am trying not to think about the crossover pipe. That may well turn out to be a lesson in making the assumption the noise was the aux belt. (I had the noise prior, and replaced all brackets)

It feels like you would err on the side of this being a boost issue?

If performance is ok I don’t think the iid can help with noises.
