Locking the flywheel

2005 tdv6 auto.
Just gathering info for the cam belt / oil pump change. Question is can the flywheel be locked in place with the starter still fitted accessing the hole via the wheel well ? I am sure I have seen a post somewhere in the hundreds of posts I have trawled over the past few weeks, but can’t find it now.
Just thinking it’s much easier to jack and remove a wheel than crawl about underneath. I will be working in the street.
Thanks

The locking tool will not fit in to place without removing the starter motor, as it locates on one of the bolts.

The locking tool has a bit welded on the side with a nut so it can be bolted in place via a hole the starter is bolted with, so yes you can but nothing is holding it in place
Metal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)
LR door puddle projectors (10 mins)
Tinted Bonnet wind deflector (10 mins)
All Intercooler pipes and Tbolts (2hrs)

Rear discs, shoes, pads, callipers, flexi hoses, rigid brake line, n/s upper hub carrier bush and rear n/s upper arm (13hrs over 2 days)

Lots of argument about it, but lots do the job without locking the flywheel.

Personally I did mine without locking it, and it's now almost due it's next belt after another 100K miles.

It depends on how confident you are in ensuring the crankshaft hasn't moved, or that you can put it back to where it should be in relation to the locked Camshafts.

I have however done a few belts of different V and boxer engines, so I wasn't a first timer.

If you’re changing the oil pump casing the flywheel will have to be locked.
