London T-CHARGE - IMPORTANT

Folks. I have recently checked the TFL T-Charge tool in relation to my 2013 Disco 4. Put in my registration and the site comes back and says that my Disco 4 is liable for the T-Charge as it is not compliant with the Euro 4 emissions standard. Sad

Interesting.. I checked my V5C and cross checked the emissions values with the Euro emissions standard and the Disco 4 is indeed Euro 5 compliant. So the T-Charge online tool is incorrect. Shocked

I have checked directly with TFL and have had the following response.. "The minimum emissions standards required for the T-Charge are Euro 4 for both petrol and diesel vehicles and this charge typically relates to vehicles that predate 2006. Having fully investigated your comments, I am happy to confirm that the T-Charge doesn't apply to your vehicle."

Next thing.. test the cameras and see if I get a fine Smile

My D4 isn't found, neither is my Jazz, though SWMBO's is. Never mind, I've no intentions of taking either into Central Lundinium.

HOLD THE FRONT PAGE!!!!!!

Checker now has both of those as not needing the charge but put the reg number of my departed 06MY (EURO 3) and it also doesn't need to pay the charge. Whistle Whistle

If your going into London, i'd take a screenprint of the TFL charge screen.
You got to be careful with these people, will change it and fine you.

I still find it odd that the completely undermined EU emission standards are being used as a new way to cut pollution from London.

I’m 300 yards inside the ULEZ and my Disco 09 HSE will not be compliant with the new years. Apparently residents will get 3 yrs to 2023 without any charge then will have to pay the daily charge. Looks like it will have to go. Given the number of pre 2015 Discos in London alone I would think the second hand market will collapse. What other cities are considering a similar charge?

England

Terry, all the big ones as I understand it.

London is different from most cities - is does have a good public transport system - it's packed at peak periods, but it does have a good and fast one.

Birmingham - could be argued to have a good one - but they only have buses that cover most areas and trains for a few. And despite being reasonably cheap, car is still the dominant form of transport because the busses are too slow and don't go where you want to go as a rule and aren't regular enough.

For example my daughter is at Uni in Birmingham and is living at home. It takes 2 buses to get to uni in the morning at about 90 minutes. Its about 10miles. Depending when she leaves, home by bus can take over 2 hours - the first 20minute leg has been known to take an hour. She often comes home by train (two of them) - which is a bit faster - especially as I tend to pick her up from the station - otherwise its an additional bus.

I have no real answer TBH - though when I was a student in Sheffield in the mid 80's the busses were about 5p from halls into the city - often you would not be able to get on the first 2 or 3 that came along they were so full - but they came every few minutes at peak times.
They were fast into town, because cars were left at home in the main so the streets were fairly quiet.

They put the cost of busses back up a couple of years after I left, and cars returned to the city and snarled it up.

I've been back since several times, and the road system is being reworked to allow for traffic flow.

Madness.

Perhaps if the cost of public transport came down alot and was more of it, the casual car user would use it a lot more and only the people that have to use a car to get to work and around would.

Just checked my old 1973 Rangerover 3.5 and strangely enough...................

Thank you for using the T-Charge checker. Your vehicle is not subject to the T-Charge.

disco_v8 - Clearly old MGs are very efficient & clean. I've just checked and my 1959 MGA is also compliant. Very Happy

I have screen prints of both searches on disk, and they are about to be printed out & kept in the cars.

Thumbs Up

Interesting comparison of an old petrol car vs less old diesel car vs EU standards:

We want to find out whose car is worst for human health.

The result is interesting. But the real surprise is that few people really know what their cars are doing to us, and that some new cars are far, far worse than others, and even worse than some old cars.
