How long to wait before adding coolant please? |
|
Been driving on Autoroute for 20 mins and got low coolant warning. Pulled over. Sorry for the daft question, but how long should I wait before adding coolant please? Thank you! 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

I don't claim credit for this:-
Unscrew the cap on the coolant/antifreeze reservoir - protect your hands from hot water & steam.
If it is boiling wait until it settles
Start the car.
Let it tick-over until the fan comes on.
Turn your aircon up as hot as it can go. ...
Turn your aircon's fan up to full blast.
The coolant temperature should now drop
If so watch the coolant reservoir, and top up slowly
The anti-freeze level may go down as it replaces the trapped air that escaped.
If you top up with water don't forget to get the anti-freeze concentration correct as soon as possible.
Investigate & rectify the cause of the overheating.

This advice was so useful - thank you. Crazy dash to the ferry but got there just in time. Got low coolant warning every 30 mins and had to top up and managed to get sorted thanks to this. For anyone interested, they will still let you on the Zebrugge-Hull 1900 sailing at 1815... squeaky bum moment!!!
Thanks again! 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +
