Loss of power when accelerating through 1800 - 2000 rpm |
|
Towing my van back from the dales this morning, my 55 HSE auto has developed a disturbing fault whereby accelerating through 1800-2000rpm range it virtually dies on me until the box changes down, revs jump sky high and i regain some momentum. Very disconcerting at roundabouts where with the van on I literally nearly came to a standstill while trying to pick up speed again. Still noticable without the caravan, but not as dangerous. Having read similar threads, I'm still not sure about what the issue might be. Anyone suffered similar? Thanks, Richard.

I'm no expert but when mine did this it turned out to be EGR valves....
Do a search and read some of the threads about this... nil admirari

When it picks up do you get a cloud of balck smoke. Recently had the same thinking it was the gearbox and turned out to be EGR fault.

Thank you for your replies. I haven't noticed any black smoke on pick up, no. But I will check out the threads on the EGR problems. Another interesting symptom (politely put...) is that when wanting to set cruise control at 60mph with the van on the back, it's around 2000rpm,and the car slowing loses power, regardless of the cruise control having been set to control the cars road speed. Thanks again.
