I know. Just, I’ve had this happen on a ‘98 Peugeot, a ‘04 Honda (both petrol), and an ‘11 Nissan (diesel), all where oil was low; one where it happened at speed.
Won’t admit to how many were my wife’s cars
But, quick action in stopping and not driving until topped up did not seem to result in major disaster.
Just disappointed that this doesn’t seem true for the TDV6

But sometbing that is knackered to my mind cannot work but it does work so it must be able to be fixed and cannot be knackered.
Currently, it's half broken then...
Not completely broken yet, but the bottom end of your engine is knocking, and trying to escape the crankcaseMy D3 Build Thread

And I'm not driving it. Nor have I been since it got home earlier. Just saying that it drove the 10 miles home after the noise started and after the oil had been topped up.

It’s only coz I have form in that area. An old D3 with a knackered engine is worth far more as a pile of parts.

Two possible solutions for you to consider.
I have a friend who is selling his D3 complete for £1250 because one of the head gaskets has blown and he has had enough of it so that would give you a good bottom end.
And I have an S type 2.7 diesel with a cracking engine that I'm prepared to sell.
It passed it's MOT yesterday with no advisories and I shall be taxing it on the first if I don't sell it by then as I need a runabout for a couple of months.
Add that to the mix and see if it helps your decision.

Abermarc, pleasure to meet you this morning ! Cracking looking disco, very envious of the roof rack ! I can confirm guys that the bottom end isn’t knocking, the noise is high up, brake servo side, possibly related to cam chain/tensioner. Jarrod

That's fairly good news and sounds like it could be dealt with in situ.
Fingers crossed it's something simple after all.
