Loud scraping noise?
Just dropped the tin tent off, and on the way home a very loud noise coming from the front end started. Put the window down and it sounded like something metal was trailing under the car, almost thought the whole exhaust system was trailing on the ground it was so loud. Jumped out and couldnt find anything hanging down, set off home another 2 miles and no noise!!! Could it be brakes, pads, discs?
If so I might have to limp it to the local dealer 12 miles away, at worst get Green Flag to take it!!!
Cheers
John

No volcanic ash to be found anywhere! Although I did find a frozen chocolate cake on the roof - that would be the fall out for Iceland!!!!!
No idea what it was, heard it just after I un-hitched the van, sounded like I was dragging something metal under the car, looked and nothing there. went 2 miles and as mentioned above.
looks like I'll limp it off to the stealers and get fleeced for something!

Just had exactly the same thing myself at the weekend, took the pads of the front (& broke the bloody sensor cable) but all was fine. Eventually noticed when i put the wheel back on, that it rocked very slighly & that when you spin it a slight metallic grating can be heard. So i'm guessing a new wheel bearings are required.
My car has 45k on the clock for reference

Cheers chaps, spoke to the dealers old guy today, who told me its a chipping/ stone stuck behind the disc guard as methley mentioned. What a bloody noise for a small stone, seems to have stopped now. old lad told me that the discs would either grind it and smash it up or it may drop out on its own, or sometimes he has just reversed a bit and it drops out. no volcanic ash !!!
